So I lost my job, I'm 2 months in on my lease on a no rent allowance property. Does my land lord have to accept my rent allowance now? Will I lose my deposit?

No your landlord dose not have to accept RA,however you should talk to him/her and ask will they.If you leave the flat you will be intilted to have your security deposit returned.

First port of call is start searching for somewhere else ,

Have you been renting privately longer than 2 months ?

Is this your first rental property or have you rented privately before?

If it's your first, you will not be entitled to RA until you have been renting privately for 6 months, unless you are on the local authority housing list.

Your landlord does not have to accept Rent Allowance at all.

I've been renting privately for 2 years prior to this with a different land lord. what would be the likelihood he would now accept rent allowance?
I'm looking for new properties that accept rent allowance but none that accept it meet my needs. I can afford 2 more months private after this from savings but after that I'm in trouble. Thanks for the replies :)

You will be accepted for Rent Allowance so, but your current landlord does not have to sign the forms if he does not want to.

surely it is no difference to him, unless he isnt declaring the property, which is illegal. it can only be to his advantage to accept regular and reliable money, i think you get like 60% of the rent so long as the rent isnt over a certain amount, but there are ways around that too. i think if you have been a good reliable tennant you should phone him and explain the situation. this no rent allowance is ridiculous, and you only have to listen to adrian kennedy on the radio to hear why landlords wont accept it, everyone gets tarred with the same brush. ring him and speak nicely.......you can only ask. good luck

depends too if your rent is within ra limits; go to the citizens information site for that info under rent allowance
