Looking to build a wall at the back of the house here once the weather settles down as the old wooden one has seen better days. It's just over 13M long and would build it 5' high. Would build it myself. It's at the top of a small hill and a bit exposed in very windy weather.

How much, roughly would it cost to build this all in.

What are you building it with, bricks, blocks, stone? Huge price difference between them all.

    Rough guess 270 6" solid blocks @ 0.62 cent = €167
    Foundation 1.7 m3 @ €70/m3 = €119
    Plastering €150
    €436

Wouldn't be worth it for the petrol collecting them.

Edit actually you are right. Getting such a small load delivered will cost a small load delivery charge of and extra 30 quid so might aswell collect if cheap.

Lads you need to add a few quid for digging the foundations and backfilling when done.
    Maybe €150

Build it block on the flat with around 4 piers, far stronger job and hopefully wont crack, you'll need around 400 blocks, 4 pier caps and 12 metres of wall cap, 1 gallon of mortiser, 1 gallon of waterproofer, 10 leghts of external pvc 20mm plaster bead, 1 box 0f 50mm steel nails, 4 lenghts of 2 x1 pao. plastering sand, building sand and cement. around 1.5 cube of concrete for the footings. a mini digger for digging and back-filling and 2 days for a plasterer.
it'll cost a lot more than you reckon id say.

It depends what the wall is for, if mortar is mixed at 3:1 instead of 7:1 and plasticizer used there will be no need for piers.

now seriously sam. does anyone mix mmortar at seven to 1. its an exposed area and for the little bit extra work is it not as well do it right. 13m is a long span for any wall without any form of break, if nothing else it would be fair bland looking.

That has nothing to do with piers. In fact the more plasticizer used the more it weakens the mix. 4:1 for all building mortar, scud coat at 2:1 scratch coat 3:1 and finish coat 4:1 with lime

Like I said it depends what the wall is for.

I wouldn't spare the pillars or the cement , neither of them will break the bank really

Hi all. above is very interesting

I am trying to price a brick wall, 1.8 m high, 13 m long, "english bond" a 9" thick wall that has finished face both sides and typically built with 1st course both front and back laid lenght ways and then the second course laid long ways and so on.

Foundation is there as existing block wall has blown over.

    Piers required.

Thinking of architectural salvage bricks and have seen ad for €450 for 500 bricks. Builder says I need 2800 bricks. Does this sound right?
How much should sand, gravel and labour cost?

Anything I should be asking the builder?

    Thanks in advance!!
