This is on tomorrow. I'm looking forward to seeing how Sam Bennett fares out. Paddy power don't have him listed for betting on which is annoying as I'd say a few euro each way would have been interesting. Very little talk about it on here yet, if any. I wonder will the weather ruin it again this year?

The weather was lovely when I did it!

It's Sagan v Cancellara for me. Should be a cracking race. I hope the weather is wet and miserable, there's something very wrong with sunny classics.

Shame in some ways, but its a lot to ask of him in his first year with the team for such a high profile event and at 298km its really - really - long, so it probably unrealistic to think he would be a contender ...?

"Just mention Milano-Sanremo and immediately your mind goes to a 7-year jump back in time. The Milano-Sanremo goes back to its “classic” route, particularly appealing to sprinters. The Manie climb will be skipped, and the Pompeiana climb is inaccessible. The “Classicissima” thus goes back to its fast and - just seemingly - effortless route, which has been the trademark of the most popular road race for at least 25 years. The main difficulties - or, rather, opportunities to upset sprinters’ plans - are the legendary Turchino pass, the “capi” (Mele, Cervo and Berta) and - especially - the Cipressa and Poggio climbs.

The fastest men around - Cavendish, Greipel, Degenkolb - are tipped as favourites, but the history of the Sanremo teaches us that we should never take anything for granted. It took Mario Cipollini, by far the fastest sprinter of his generation, 14 years to cross the finish line in Sanremo with his arms stretched out high towards the sky.

The last edition on the traditional course (2007) was won by Oscar Freire, a complete and utter sprinter, ahead of Allan Davis and Tom Boonen. But the year before, in 2006, an attacker like Filippo Pozzato outwitted and outran everybody, just as Paolo Bettini did in 2003.

The magic of the Sanremo lies in it being considered an easy Classic... which is not that easy, all in all. In the first place, it is the longest race of the year, and its finale - rough and rugged - offers thousands of opportunities to attack. There is one rider who won the Milano-Sanremo 7 times, by interpreting it in seven different ways, when the race course featured the Poggio climb, and not the Cipressa. Well, that was no less than... Mr. Eddy Merckx. But the peloton surely features a handful of champions (just think of Sagan or Cancellara) who are not Merckx, but can ride Merckx-style.

Whatever happens, the Milano-Sanremo - or “Primavera”, as they call it abroad - will send shivers down our spine once again, and will be the official start to the great 2014 season, just like it has always been for over a century.

No real risk of a repeat of last years weather, by the looks of it... rain is expected especially in the early stages of the race, turning to showers toward San Remo.

I am thinking of Mr Philippe Gilbert might put on a show tomorrow

Pity about Sam Bennett not making the squad and it might be a bit too much for him especially after Tirreno Adriatico

I know you have probably seen it a million times but still love this Kelly win esp for David Duffield commentary and the massive crowd sigh when Kelly catches Argentin

It'd be nice to see Nico in the mix with a few km to go, fingers crossed.
A couple of outsiders maybe: EBH, Kwiatowski, Kreuziger, someone from Astana !

According to Nico he is working for both Bennatti and Kreuziger tomorrow and still chasing form

Only chance would be if he got in a biggish break early on ....working for TCS is usually hard work so may be exhausted by end

Kwiatowski & Kreuziger are distinct possibilities.

Sure is. Looked in brutal form in the Tirreno though.

What do people think of Cancellara's chances? hes 14/1 with paddy power surely his odds should be shorter?

Cancellara has one trick, ride folk off his wheel. Too easy to sit on (well, easier than in PR or Flanders) in MSR.

    Nibali was 21st in Paris-Nice, 2.17 down.

I wonder if the reason Sam Bennet has been left out is because he was really struggling towards the end of the Tirreno-Adriatico. Maybe needs the rest?

His missus just had a baby. Probably hasn't slept. That would put anybody in brutal form!

Must be what was wrong with Andy Schleck :D...who had a baby the day after Nibbles

Surely its hard to avoid Cav as a real favourite? His OPQS team have been immense this year and if he has support in the finale, it will be very hard for Sagan & Co to shed him. Add to that the chances are that this is his last big chance in MSR so he is going to be super keen - the Pompieana will be included for the next few years and the sprinters will have a much lower chance. Maybe Spartacus will do a 'special' but he will be marked to the hilt, and its going to be harder to neutralise OPQS........

Anyway, 3-4 hour spin for me in the AM followed by MSR in the PM. Looking forward to this....... :)

If Cav's leadout train is still together, which is a high possibility, and so a leadout like in Tirreno, nobody will be any where near close. I think it'll be Cav first and the possibly Degenkolb as the Giant-Shimano team have been fairly consistent. Cancellara will have to go from a long way out to hold off OPQS I think.

There'll be no lead out trains today. I'll be surprised if there's 2 riders from the same team in the leading group. It's not like a stage race where they can dawdle along and the work hard at the end to catch the break away.

BMC, Cannondale and Trek will wind it up on the capi to burn off sprinters and their teams.

I've changed my mind a bit, I'd love to see Gilbert win.

With about 30 minutes to go until live coverage on Eurosport, there isn't much to report so far.

In the breakaway are: Matteo Bono (Lampre Merida), Nathan Haas (Garmin-Sharp), Nicola Boem (Bardiani), Antonio Parrinello (Androni Giocattoli), Maarten Tjallingii (Belkin), Jan Barta (Netapp-Endura), Marc de Maar (UnitedHealthCare).

The only big abandonment so far is JJ Rojas from Movistar.

And it's been fairly wet and windy, with the odd hail shower as well.

I'd like to see Cav win, but I can't see how they don't shed him on one of the last two climbs, Sagan should win this.

Yeah there's a bit on Saxo-Tinkoff on the TV feed. It's pretty dull. I'm not sure who that voice-over guy is, he does a lot of work on Eurosport, but he always sounds half asleep.

Do the eurosport guys go to the race or are they stuck in a broom cupboard in a different country?
