Panasonic Smart TV

    Hi,

We got a Panasonic smart TV 2 months ago but there are two things I can't figure out (our last TV was bought about 10 years ago so I'm not very up-to-date on these things).
Firstly, you're supposed to be able to play files wirelessly from your laptop- the TV doesn't seem to be able to find our laptops on the media server (it only finds my mum's work computer). I followed a Panasonic canada youtube tutorial to try set it up- prior to that the server could find our laptops but not the files we wanted to play. I did have to change the homegroup password but that seems to have worked ok, so I don't know how to fix it...
Secondly, it turns out one of the laptops in the house doesn't have a HDMI port (even though it was bought in 2012). How can we can connect it to the tv for streaming stuff online? I thought a VGA-USB cable would work, along with one of those headphone jack style cables (don't know the proper name- sorry), but then someone told me I'd need a converter...
If anyone has any advice I'd be delighted as this is getting very frustrating!

    Hi,

It sounds like the media server settings on windows is not switched on properly. Try searching Windows forums for a step by step guide. Either that or your PC does not support DLNA ( the technology upon which the feature is built ).

Once connected the TV will search the PC for files it can play. All the common video files should be supported.

With regards to the cable, VGA to USB will not work.

You can buy VGA to HDMI or VGA to scart adaptors that would carry the picture signal. Perhaps take your laptop into a local independent store and ask to try on one of their display models.

    Hope this helps somewhat.
