Need two new front tyres for 18" BMW alloys - looking for opinions on these 2 brands. Have looked at a few online reviews for both but would like to hear from people here who have personal experience with either or both of them.

Deffo Tokohama. I have kumo's right now they are ok but I probably would not buy again

I have used Yokos on a smaller car (MX5) with 16" rims, and they're good. They last well, are sticky in the dry, good in the wet, and they break traction nicely/predictably when pushed.

I switched to Avon ZZ3s and Avon ZZ5s on different cars recently and find that they are damn good too

Ideally I'd like to get Michelin Pilot Sport 3's but my mechanics supplier charges considerably for them than the other two. I looked on eiretyres.com and the Pilot Sport 3's range from €147-191 each as opposed to €280-300+ if I were to get them in any tyre fitting garage.

    What's the catch there?

Eiretyres are located outside of Ireland ;-)

It's worth shopping around, as the saying goes. Some local places may end up being +/- the same as buying off the internet once you figure in €15 per tyre fitting and balancing.

Try camskill.co.uk - they are also good for Powerflex bushes, and other things. Their tyre prices are better than Eiretyres in my experience. Delivery isn't too bad, something like €20 for 4 tyres

I had the below on my old 3 Series in 18" and imo they are a fabulous tyre and well worth the money. Brilliant grip in the dry and wet.

I have Kumho IZen K27 (winter tyres) on a BMW (18's). Very good tyre. Takes about 100 miles or so to bed in.

I'd be happy to pay €149 a corner for Michelins, don't mind waiting a week or two longer..cheapest I could find here was ~€260+ each.

    €596 tyres x 4
    €20 delivery
    €60 fitting

    €676 fitted

Fitted in Dublin from a tyre garage would be €1,000+. Surely I'm missing something?

EDIT: Just realised rear tyres are €195, not €149. Still considerably cheaper than buying here though.

When I'm replacing the tyres on my E90, it will most likely be too these too.

I had 18" kumho ku39s on my e90 for few months before I sold the alloys for 19s. I found them very good for the money, think it was £380 odd stg. for the full set. Obviously don't know about durability but I would buy again .

The model is as important as the brand...

Neither....get a set of Hankooks Evo 12's. One of the best tyres you can get for that size wheel.

I have Kumho runflats on 17" wheels on an E90. Definitely recommend them. Also I find Oponeo are cheaper than Camskill or Eiretyres, the delivery and taxes are included in the price, and delivery is fast.

Have a new set of four of these on my focus for a month or so now. Decent tyre but on initial turn in and overall grip eagle f1's are superior however they wear out fast.

Paid like 420 delivered for four in size you have above from cam skill.

I had Kumho ECSTA SPT's on my previous car, a Mazda6 MPS and I thought they were brilliant considering they were at the lower end of the price scale. I would highly recommend them! Never had Yokohama tyres so can't comment on them.

Currently have Goodyear Eagle F1s and they are absolutely fantastic.

Going by past 17" experience, my recommendation would be Continental Contisport 3 or 5's or Eagle F1 AS2.

I have Kumho KU31s on the front and they wash out very quickly - they were on it when I bought the car and brand new so I didn't really want to swap them.

I've had good Yokohama tyres and bad, my mothers car came with Yokohama tyres as standard and they had a serious tendancy to understeer.

    What is the size?

Yes I've had them in 245 40 18 xl and they felt better than the factory fitted pilot sport.
They were stunning wet and dry. I tend to like a stiff sidewall on the rear of the car and I loved these. High performance tyre imo.

Only bad thing about buying tyres online is getting the courier stickers off :(

First world problems and all that

A few 11's will soon sort that out :D

Never had a problem there, Oponeo send them shrink-wrapped in plastic and there's nothing stuck to the tyre other than the maker's label.
