Which is a better options

I'm looking to do computing in college. In 4th year you have to pick a specialist area. The two in interested in is software specialist or cloud computing specialist.

Which would give you better carter options with top companies like google or Microsoft

Pick something that you enjoy doing for yourself firstly,, something you have a passion for and you enjoy doing. Don't just go pick something because it is now trendy in said company......

I wouldn't necessarily hold up Microsoft or Google as the best employers.

From what I hear, Google is tough to get into with 5 interviews, then everyone is so good in there that career opportunities are hard to come by.
Also, you may end up in some support position expected to be available nights/weekends etc.

Microsoft... I imagine all the interesting development is done in the US, and they just route their funds through Ireland for tax purposes.

Sometimes as a graduate, working in a small company means you perform more roles and more responsibility. If you walk into a large established software house, you're pigeon holed into minor roles.

So I agree, go with what interests you.

I read article, about working at google,
AT least in the us ,it seems you are expected to work most weekends,
not a great work life balance .
its not really a 9-5 job.
Some people are working there as contractors, and are looked down on by the other staff.
MY advice is study what you are interested in, and you ,ll get a job anyway.
BASED on your degree, and qualifications etc

Thanks for the replies guys. I prefer making softer ware so ill probably stick with that. I just taught because cloud completing is on the rise that it would be better. I haven't even started the course so it's a long way off I was just researching it today

GOOD programmers, will always be in demand.
if you are filling out an application. for a job, training course ,maybe use a spell checker .
There,s a few basic spelling mistakes in your posts in this thread.
For google the interview is as important as your cv,
they are looking for people who are very smart ,
they do various tests on job seekers,
like iq tests,
they are looking for more than a basic programmer.

Googles interview process is bullsh1t.

Their stupid questions don't tell them a damn thing about you. They can afford to mess people around is all.
