Switching to Vodafone...Beware!

VF have just cost me an extra €30.
My previous provider was Sky. I signed up for VF Home Extra last Fri 14th Mar. and was advised the changeover would take approx 4 weeks. I thought this reasonable and it would also give me time to advise Sky of my intention to move to VF. Suddenly I receive a VF modem in the post on Wed 19th! This is within the 7-day cooling-off period which surprised me but I didn't complain just VF being super-efficient. Then this morning in the post I receive a letter from Sky advising that my phone services have already been transferred to VF on 18th! This again is well within the cooling-off period but worse still is the fact that Sky are now imposing a €30 surcharge on my Broadband as the Sky Talk services have been removed prematurely!

I presumed there would be a seamless changeover after four weeks and that both phone and broadband services would transfer simultaneously.

I will be requesting a €30 credit from VF to compensate for this changeover fiasco.
So much for a painless switching procedure!
Are they within their rights to transfer the Talk services in advance of the Broadband changeover?
I'm considering contacting the regulatory staff about this if it would do any good!

You must be joking! Have you seen their response time and rate?:D

Anyway. I'm trying to forewarn people before they take the plunge!

Are you sure that you will end up paying that? I think something similar happened to me when I left Sky and then when the broadband transferred a few days later Sky adjusted the charge and I didn't end up paying it. Voice services have to be transferred first and broadband follows...

Well Sky say surcharge is €30 per month and the original estimate from the VF rep was four weeks for changeover to happen so we'll see. I suppose it's just possible that if VF transfer the Broadband early then the charge may be less. Hopefully it may be just a few days as in your own case.

Generally the broadband follows voice by a few days. I got a letter from Sky when they transferred the voice with the price increase outlined in it, but then a few days later I got another letter saying my broadband was now transferred aswell and I paid no extra fee.

It never takes 4 weeks or anything like it in my experience. The quote that as the maximum time, but if the process has started then broadband follows close behind voice.

Well it's now ten working days since the phone service went over and still no move on the BB service!

That wasn't my experience, what do Vodafone say?

Clare is still on a faults backlog, all service orders will be delayed by this.

I'm going to be switching to Vodafone Fibre soon and I hope I don't have any of the issues you are having!

There's still a high number of outages around the West & South- West of the country & Eircom are prioritising those repairs. So expect delays in new installations/upgrades. Hopefully Eircom will have pulled the finger out during March, which was benign weatherwise, and the delays will be gone soon.

Thanks. I wasn't aware of that.

Oh how I wish that was true in my case.....it's now 18 working days since the phone service transferred but the BB is still with Sky!

    did you phone them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 873 ✭✭✭peking97

I did and they tell me there's a holdup but can't say why. They're due to call me back with info.

Just got a call back this morning advising it will be 30th April before BB transfers to VF. That's 30 working days after voice service transferred and almost 7 weeks since I signed-up. Unbelievable!

That's unusual. Must have been some other things going on.

Ordered a few minutes ago with my Sky contract officially ending on 18th, hopefully I don't incur any hidden charges.

CS rep mentioned something about Eircom having to reboot gateways.
I would have thought that would take no more than a few minutes.
I reckon I got the mushroom treatment!

hey peking - don't hold your breath

last august i switched from eircom to vf ( they promised line and bb for 37 a month - about 12 quid cheaper than i was paying with eircom)

voice changeover happened in a week

then after six months of calling, emailing and calling and emailing again bb still hadn't changed over - the replies were just fob-offs all the time - we're on the issue - it's been resolved etc etc)

ended up paying 30 a month to eircom for bb and 28 a month to vf for line rental - ie 9 euro more than i had been paying to eircom alone - vf customer service was useless - in the end (about a month ago, I just wrote to them and said I was gonna cancel the direct debit and i didn't think the contract should hold as they hadn't delivered what they said they would after nearly 8 months.)

have just cancelled the dd so we'll see what happens now.

not happy to switch everything back to eircom either as I'd be paying about 50 quid a month for speeds that reach 200kbps at best and often drop off to bytes or nothing at all a night - so, gonna try mobile broadband from three instead and we'll see how that works out.

best of luck with vodafone - hope you get sorted quicker than I did.
