Is this the most desirable Opel for sale in Ireland today?

Probably, but theres no chance in hell I'd pay 2.8 tax on a Vectra tbh.

    I'd rather one of these

I had one of them, remapped to 320bhp. Epic car!!

    Another one:

That thing must be standing them feck all to risk taking it into stock.

Would you get that for 30k they are around 50k new.

Probably worth the UK trade price +VRT refund on export I would say. I doubt anyone is going to buy a car like that used in Ireland. The road tax is a killer and there is no prestige in Opel that repays that. Id say its a great car though.

I was full sure it was gonna be a Saab!

It's undesirability rather than desirability which is what makes it cheap.

Is the Vectra OPC 4wd, I'd pray that much power was not going the front wheels?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,005 ✭✭✭veetwin

Agree with bazz. It's probably one of the least desirable Opels on sale. I'd say €8k is optimistic for a 7 year old undesirable car with huge tax, fuel and service bills.

If anyone is prepare to pay those high running costs they might as well get a top end Mercedes, BMW or Audi that's a couple of years older.

    This too shall pass.

Personally I don't find any Opel's desirable, doesn't matter on the price! :P

Ad hasn't been updated in 52 days so it's likely not for sale at all.
    Interesting fir a spin though.

    One trick pony car.

Insignia chassis copes with the power a lot better but tax is an eye watering two and a half grand on the make it up as you go along emissions system.

As far as I can see it's not 2 and a half grand tax, it's 1391 as the car in the opening post is 2007

SuperG is talking about the Insignia.

    Nope........

Id rather a GS300, S-class or XJ. You can buy these for pennies now. Not as new obviously but bigger, comfortable, stylish etc.

Vectra is nice, but at the end of the day its still a Vectra.

If people drove one of these instead of basing their opinion on what Jeremy Clarkson says it would have more fans! Best car I ever owned. IMG_0090.jpg IMG_0092.jpg

I'd drive one NPS the Irish tax ruins the car though much like my current car.

One of the memorable things for me is she could do a standing start to 100 mph (160kmph) in third gear :-0

    Poor clutch :(

    Poor clutch :(

Not really, iv never had to replace a clutch!! Didn't even need revved, just let the clutch out and away she went! Only done it a time or two also, was not typical driving practice but thanks for focusing on the negative anyway lol

    What would Clarkson say!!

I admit I do like them and would like one for a while BUT I would always go back to the likes of a big saloon or coupé.

Not being negative. Like I said I would drive one if tax wasn't so high on them.

But that kind of craic will put the drive train under pressure.

That's 1 nice car, I prefer the Vauxhall brand to be honest.

Drove by that insignia today in fairness its a stunning looking motor.

, but at the end of the day its still a Vectra.
This is the bones of it for me. Absolutely detest the Vectra (and the other opels of the era, bloody Zafira especially) Horrible squareness of everything in the cabin. The interiors smell weird too imo. Only ever felt car sick in 2 cars and both were Vectras. Best thing to happen to my cousins Vectra was someone writing it off a couple of weeks back. It never broke down but he's glad to be shot of it.

What would VRT be like roughly?

Probably not as much as the tax here!

Will tell ya next year when i buy one :)

Honestly i'd say you are talking 4 grand anyway.

Is no actual classification on ROS website for the make/model yet so you would be a guinea pig.

If it's straight it's about the going rate for a 420 LS2 facelift one in the UK atm. Doubt there is much of a market for them here atm though with 1800 tax.

Still with just an aftermarket exhaust and some suspension stiffening they are a cool car.

Co2 is 385g/km isn't going to drop it much :pac:. Not listed on the calculator. I say your looking of 36% of around 10k though alright,

Would be serious craic. Watched this a while ago.

Anything with a VXR tag is by definition not an Opel. I had toyed with buying a VXR8 3 years ago before I bought a different V8 (based in London before you ask). This was after having an SV6 in Australia as a hire car. Lots of fun even though a spartan interior. Anyone who compares my suggestion of this as being a desirable Opel (absolutely taking account of the price) with a BMW or Merc V8 is missing the point. It's a development from a standard saloon car and one whose demise (along with the mainstreaming of 3/5 series and E/C classes) is to be mourned. Sierra Cosworths, Lotus Carltons, etc were accessible performance cars.

That paticular model/year/spec is holding price at around high 11's/low 12's sterling atm in the UK which is over 14000 euros.

If anything i would say they will base the now non existant OMSP off of that price of the more expensive ones on the UK market atm.

4k VRT would be optimistic really :( Still they are a big lazy V8 and it's a pretty bulletproof engine. Supercharged 500bhp limited edition one would honestly be my someday dreamcar :)

I spent a long time looking at VXR8s. The price dropped pretty dramatically post purchase but at one stage they were £35k new. A$ appreciated strongly through the financial crisis meaning new ones were costing the guts of £50k so the older ones stopped depreciating.

1st thing i would do would be to buy Holden decals online and an aftermarket steering wheel as the standard one looks horrible :(

He wrong it's an LS1, the LS2 is a 6 litre truck engine originally the 5.7 is i think a similar engine to whats in the hillbillys Sierra.

Hmm seems that car was garaged abit or in the mechanics alot in 2010.

Worth noting, or like OP on pistonheads said it could be a coincidance
