Ford Fiesta Starting Problem - Help please.

    Hi,

I have bought a 2005 Ford Fiesta Steele 1.25L recently and everything has been perfect until Wednesday.
Basically, sometimes when the car is started, either it wont start or else it starts and then cuts out. When I turn the key, the petrol thing on the little screen goes up and down like it is waking up. When I turn the key sometimes there is a sort of scraping sound and it doesn't start and other times it stars and then cuts out - when it does this I have noticed that the rev counter never wakes up until around 5 10 seconds after the car has been started, sometimes I give a slight rev to try and keep it started until the rev counter wakes up and it coughs a little but once the rev counter moves it is perfect.
This happens on and off but is becoming more frequent. When I got home yesterday I turned off the car and kept starting it, sometimes it did it and sometimes it started. Also, car never cuts out while I'm driving.
Dad said it sounds like the starter motor but wondering if there is anyone else out there with the same problem? Other than this the car is great and I love it, so would really love to get it sorted as yesterday thought I was going to be stuck at work. Thanks in advance.

Sounds to me like the battery is on its way out. If it's the original 2005 battery in it, and I suspect it is, that would make sense.

I will check the battery on it later, never checked that. That would be an easy fix if it was.
