no difference in UPC upgrade

my bill said i got upgraded from 50mb to 120mb for free. so i unplugged my router and did a speedtest. im still getting the same download.....36mb ish but my upload went from 5mb ish to 8mb ish....how come my download didnt improve? i would have expected about 80mb seing as im apparently on 120mb now?


ive the epc3925 bridged with a netgear router because my 3925 had crap signal and would drop out alot.


maybe the speed will improve later?

If you're seeing the 8Mb upload then you're on 120Mb. Wireless is too slow so you cant utilize your download. Connect with gigabit ethernet and you'll see 90-120Mb down.

but i use wireless. if i buy a gigabit ethernet and use it to connect my modem to my router will that give me the higher speeds? or do you mean i would have to connect it to my laptop?

Is that router compatible with speeds faster than 50Mb? My mother owns a house in a UPC area and they have that router. They're only getting 50Mb on a 120Mb line, which I only noticed yesterday when looking at the online account.

Wireless will do at best around 70-80Mbps, often a lot less. Lots of clients go a lot slower than this. I have a model up from yours and my laptop only manages to pull 65Mbps over 2.4 or 5Ghz.

The only way to get 120Mb to your laptop over wireless is to buy a €200 router and fit a €50 chip into your laptop so you can use the new AC1300 standard. Other than that your laptop needs to be cabled into the WNDR.

i would never expect the full 120mb. i just hoped for a noticeable increase. maybe 50-60mb and i would have been delighted. only diffrence is my average upload speed is around 6.5mb instead of 4.5 now

I don't think you're getting that wifi (G) is limited to about 50Mbs (varies a bit) regardless of what UPC deliver...so if UPC deliver 5000Gb/s you'll still only get 50Mb/s over wifi

This, 54Mbps wireless G will average around 30Mbps mark. Either your laptop doesnt support N or one of the devices connected is pulling the whole wifi down from N to G.

oh ok guys i never knew about that. as far as i know, my netgear wndr3400 IS wireless N. but i could be wrong


maybe its the epc3925 thats the problem? its bridged with the netgear and i cant find anything on google to indicate that the negear is wireless N. but then again, why on earth would upc upgrade me to speeds that their modem cannot deliver?

ok so apparently the epc3925 does support wireless N. my laptop specs are 802.11n

so im lost now

we have 2 ps4s, a ps3 and 3 smart phones connected.


so aslong as the ps3 and the phones are connected to our wifi, my laptop will never receive speeds closer to 120mb?

Thats a cheapo little unit and its tiny so the antenna has to be tiny. Your current chip is using the whole screen backing of the laptop as an antenna.

If you want ok performance go with either a real dongle, or replace your minicard.

hmm but its getting good reviews online. my laptop is a lenovo z580 and has a terrible wireless card. i have no idea how to swap them or even find out which ones would be compatible.

would the little tiny one not do the job? part of the reason i want it is cos its so small and not in the way
