What's with this "Share Thread" & "Tweet Thread" ****e?

Just noticed when reading a thread there is now an option to share and tweet threads.

When did this happen?

I go on boards in the hope of avoiding a lot of that type of crap and the the daily Facebook-status-update users. Last thing I want is to start merging boards into that aspect of social media.

Am I an overreacting twat?

The problem I have is they knid of look like that conduit virus where they try to make it look like you are on Google but not really.

Sure what difference will it make to you if you don't use it?

It's a button to let people share threads on Twitter on Facebook if they like. It might generate some more traffic here.

If Boards gave away free cash for every post there would still be complaints.

I'm using desktop mode on the ipad, looks well. It's about time they integrated it into twitter. Can see it making the mods jobs a bit more difficult though, they'll need a faster reaction time to any reported threads; twitter moves quickly.

My initial thought was

"meh doesn't make a difference its not hard to share a URL anyway"

But this is actually an awful awful idea that could have serious negative consequences, Boards is a discussion forum it already suffers from enough drive by posters and while slightly separate issue there is passionate about one topic/activist style posters as well.

What would happen if a thread starts trending on twitter or such like properly. I can't see it improving the quality and you could have people using it to notify easily groups to jump in on a thread.
I can see an absolute disaster occurring when the Gay Marriage thing kicks off again.

I don't see a problem with it, TBH. It's just at the top of the page; if it were moving or something, then sure.

I don't ever plan on using it since I don't use those but still, I think people are overreacting.

Boards is anonymous for most, I doubt the vast majority want to start linking it to their real life identities

People are agin it as it'll encourage the crazies to jump in over anything that is high profile and contentious. This move means a group can take over a thread in moments if they are sufficiently well motivated and organised.

Then move the slider to the end until it disappears entirely, and you're good to go.

It will share it via twitter if you are logged in. It won't link your boards account and your twitter account - boards won't know your twitter name and twitter won't know your boards name. The tweet of the text is just the title of the thread and a link to the touchsite.

So if you tweet a thread the only thing people will know is that you read boards - it won't reveal your username.

Can't say I'd use them but I don't see the harm in adding them. Twitter and FB are pretty much ingrained in peoples daily life now. I don't really see how it affects anyone so much.
