Non-Eu spouse of Irish national transiting through Paris on way to Beijing: visa?

Apologies for the somewhat muddled heading. The situation is as follows:
I am an Irish citizen, my wife is Chinese. She has a stamp 4 but not the stamp 4 FAM. I understand that this normally means that she must normally get a visa to enter any schengen area country, even if travelling with me. We are planning on travelling to Beijing together next week or perhaps the following week. I have noticed that there is one flight option from Dublin to Beijing with a ten-hour lay-over in Paris. My question is this: if we want to pop into the city centre for a quick visit to the Eiffel tower, a bottle of champagne and a nice meal, does she need a visa? We can of course stay at the airport for ten hours with no visa issue, but that seems like a wasted opportunity, plus CDG is about the worst possible airport for such a long layover.

MOD: Not an EU forum topic. Moving to Travel locked, so that they may review it for appropriateness.

Without Stamp 4 EUFAM she will need a visa. Though that being said, even with the EUFAM stamp she could need one as, depending on the immigration officer, they're not always 'aware' of the actual rules around this.

I know Chinese citizens who have transferred a few times in Paris between Ireland and China, visa not required.
    Netherlands, Germany also OK.

The one you need to be aware of is Heathrow (well, the whole UK), they do require a transit visa, so avoid that when booking flights.

Edit: sorry misread that, if they want to leave the airpirt and enter the country they would need need a visa ok

I met a man who was in residence at Charles de Gaulle Airport because something was wrong with his papers and he was stranded. They made a movie based on him but changed the airport to JFK. I wonder what happened to him.

I believe I met him in March 2006. Thanks for the information. I have thought about him several times since and regretted I could not help him at the time.

The OP knows he is ok to transit thru CDG, if he remains in the airport during the entire transit period. He wants to know if he can leave the airport and do some touristy stuff in Paris during the long layover, without a visa that lets his wife officially enter France.

The answer to that would be No.
An immigration officer could technically permit it on the day but by the time a translator was got, super spoken to,etc it wouldn't be worthwhile as it would be nearly time for the onward flight.

So my advice,is get the visa if it's not too dear and they really want to go in.

My wife tried this at CDG with a Chinese passport (albeit in 2011) but the immigration guy wouldn't let her in.
