I'm not sure about that. Put your music on the card once and it's there forever, no connecting/disconnecting when you get in/out.

I'm not sure how difficult they are to fit, are you sure you don't have an aux/ami socket? In the arm rest or glove box?

defo nothing in the armrest havnt really had a good look in the glove box yet but as far as i know there isnt anything in there, its a fairly high spec'd car i dont understand how it dosnt have it? like theres heated seats in the back but no aux in? haha

I think you prob have an ami in the glove box, not sure about the A6, but on other models you don't get an aux input if you have nav, I'm not sure why they would be related. But you should still have the ami, albeit in a very inconvenient location.

    so....

note that I have a 2g mmi in a 2007 a6, but I believe the 3g system is also a MOST optical bus system.

there are two places where the ami can be installed if its already present in the car:

1: in the glove box (default)
    or
2: in the boot of the car, on the left hand side as you look in, there should be a compartment door. it can be in there too (if you have navigation, then the nav will be there if its factory fit) but this is a very unusual place to have an AMI installed.

if its not there, then you have a few options.

if you have a CD changer in the glove box, then its a very quick swap - just pull out the cd changer, replace with audi AMI, and you have a place to connect up and go, but your iphone will be in the glove box each time (I leave an old ipod in mine). i've not had any success with extension cables or whatever to get the cord out to the armrest as the audi one is quite short (around 10 inches).

if you dont have anything in the glovebox, then you can also add it in to the boot cage beside the nav - you have to splice into the power to the nav for the AMI, and then extend the optical loop. sounds messy, but its not too bad, but again its not that handy for connecting/disconnecting your iphone

last option is to add something like a mobridge or dension box in behind the glove box and run the cord into the area around the arm rest so you can connect up directly there to charge and play (note that in most of these options you control the music from the MMI interface via the MMI controls). the dension also handles a2dp streaming)

I had the mobridge, but ended up uninstalling and popping in an AMI for no really good reason :)

you could also go for a fiscon bluetooth module to replace the audi standard bluetooth module as it handles a2dp, but its not as nice as the stock phone integration from what I am told.
