Switching from old sky box to s/h sky+hd box

A customer of mine has an active sky subscription with 6 or 7 years, and the same sky box all that time.

Basically they want to upgrade to a second hand SKY+hd box which they got from a friend who changed to Saorview / FTA. Obviously I will need to run another satellite feed but apart from that there are a few things we are not sure of.

**What is the deal with swapping the card from the old box to the new? Will it just work or does it involve contacting sky. This particular customer does not want to contact Sky for personal reasons. ie.. no phone line connected to his box, or the other multi-room one in his brothers house. (not my business but if its against boards rules to divulge this I do apologize)

**Will the pause/rewind/record etc automatically work.

    **Any possible pitfalls??

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I believe the card has to be paired with the new box for the PVR functions to work, shouldn't be a problem provided the s/h box account was fully paid up and out of contract.

According to a recent post there is no longer a requirement for phoneline for multiroom/multiscreen.

That is for new installation after a certain date (I believe it was in December). The phone line is still required for old installations.

You'll certainly need to pair the card to the box, but you'll probably also need to ask for the Sky+ entitlements to be added to the viewing card as well to use the PVR features.
As long as you have some form of subscription on the card the Sky+ entitlements will be free.

And yes the requirement for the phone line was only dropped for new installs on and after 18th December 2013.
Any multiscreen boxes installed before that date still require a phone line connection for the time being.

We have sky multiroom for 10 years, just needed a phoneline when we got it first installed, soon as the installer left we disconnected the phone line and never had a problem since, rang sky plenty off times to get a better deal and the phoneline never came up once with them, we even told sky a few years later that we unplugged the phone line from the sky box. Thinking of getting rid of the landline altogether now, too many mobiles in the house, no need for the extra cost with eircom.

I have done what you have done many times with no problems. If they do ask about the phone line just say "we are having problems with our phones at the moment".Have the other box number and card number just in case they ask you for it
