Pellets or Poop? ID please!

Can someone identify these for me? I'm thinking pellets but they were in the middle of a field and I thought owl pellets were normally found under trees? There don't seem to be any bones in there either.

Whatever they are, any ideas on what was eaten? There are no fur-bearing creatures in these fields, least not to the extent that the remains would suggest. There are no rabbits and only the odd pheasant. It actually looks like something has eaten a Jack Russell!

My first impression is cat furballs. What size were they?

I have cats and although they do cough up the occasional furball, it'd be nowhere near as many as that. Plus the hair looks wrong, too coarse for cats hair to me.

Wrong shape,colour and proportions for a fox. It consists of hair and not wool.
They are cat fur, or hair, balls. The coarseness varies from breed to breed.
The tail of the ball folded back along the length suggests cat as well. Probably a local cat lies up in that spot.
I would like size for confirmation, as I'd expect them to be between 5 and 12cm.

The location quoted as being the middle of a field to me says it's not a cat, I have seen a fox regurgitate these after feeding on a dead ewe, wool doesn't have to be ' curly' or wavy. But I would agree the size and shape are wrong..can't suggest further I'm afraid..

Badger?! I don't know why I thought that instead of maybe a carnivore that ate something hairy, but since it's spring, maybe from a mother animal washing it's young?

This is the frst time I've seen anything like this, there is a fox in the fields but his poop is usually dark and oily looking. Never seen a cat about at all and there are no immediate houses nearby but suppose there could be a feral around. The nearest sheep are a couple of miles away. Was hoping for something fabulously exotic ...:mad:
