School Bans MLP Lunch Box rather than address bullying

It's becoming more and more apparent that schools promote ignorance rather than tolerance.

    http://www.salon.com/2014/03/17/north_carolina_school_bans_boys_my_little_pony_lunch_bag_rather_than_confront_its_bullying_problem/

Seems like the lazy approach to me. Could be the perfect opportunity for the school to teach tolerance.

It infuriates me when someone can't express themselves however they please. It supresses individuality and hinders personal growth.

I'd be encouraging children to watch My Little Pony, regardless of gender. The values taught in the show are next to none, and obviously MLP has become somewhat of a mascot for equal rights.

Anyone else think this is an absolute disgrace? Has anything like this happened in Ireland to anyone's knowledge?

Schools are all about preserving the status quo. At the end of the day, they care very little.

Was a stupid decision though, to go as far as to "ban" the lunchbox.

Crap like this happens all the time though. Even in the Irish school system, if you are a victim of bullying, you are still frequently treated as part of the problem.

Yeah this reminds me far too much of "she wore a skirt, she was asking for it...."
Now, in my girls' school, they do not allow any cartoon characters or celebrities on lunchboxes or backpacks, for boys and girls. That is ok for me, same rule for everyone.
