Brakes pulling unevenly...

    Folks,

I've just refitted all new brakes (pipes, master cylinder, slave cylinders, shoes etc) to my old landcruiser.

    It's got drums all round.

I've adjusted all adjusters out until the wheels were just rubbing and then took it for an extended test drive to bed them in. I jammed on a few times and the truck kept kicking it's right rear end out, so I readjested all the drums again until there was an even limited friction on each.

The truck still brakes unevenly. I thought it might be due to the pads being new and not bedded in but they all look ok. Also I make two even skidmarks on the road so that hasn't helped me.

All tyres are pumped to 35psi.

Anyone got any tips for adjusting drums to pull even?

Worn bushes will also cause these symptoms, as you brake the geometry changes and causes the vehicle to step out.
Have you checked all the front suspension for wear/movement with a long bar?

You could also try it on a brake test machine in a garage and see what is happening between front and rear and left/right.
If the brake forces are the same the problem is elsewhere.

    +1 on the bushings.

when you adjust the brakes are you adjusting them till the wheel is locked tight then slacken itoff a fraction so the wheel is turning relativly freely ??
