help appreciated - tried Revenue Manual but found it ambigous :

is the OMSP - the current new car price sales price or the original

Should the Revenue allow a cash discount given a retail price is gross of a cash discount and Revenue do allow one for BIK purposes.

    Background :

NCT office wrongly assesed me on the wrong version of a car I imported

I imported the basic version - they picked an enhanced one and even at that I have no idea whgere they got the price from

I will appeal so help appreciated

as a start i intend getting the old Ireland retail lists and using them as a basis

Its the open market selling price. Ie revenues assessment of what the car you are bringing in would cost in Ireland right now if it was an Irish car.

    this happened to me too

tried to over charge me and the guy didnt care just said appeal it.

I left, got a printout of the revenue calculator for my car and also a document from the main dealer stating the car and went back

again the guy didnt care. I left again and went to a different centre and a very helpful guy saw my point and took the old quote, destroyed it and referred my case to revenue.

they came back 3 days later with the cheaper quote

    thanks

given that depreciation is reduced after OMSP do i assume its the "new" open market cash price of the car

this must be a guess given a car could be out of production many years earlier ?? (and replaced with better models etc)

    HI There fellow VRT Lovers!
    quick question for members:
I imported a car from UK in January, registered for VRT and the lady in my local VRT Centre had to ring revenue for a VRT figure as the model was not revenue listed. I received a text from VRT/NCT 2 weeks later saying my VRT figure was available. I still have not gone to regster & pay the fee:mad::mad::mad:....... was wondering can I sell the car privately & let the person pay the vrt on it (without my late penalties) or is there a way of getting around this problem?
    any help much appreciated

The "legal" answer is no. An Irish resident who is not a dealer, cannot legally sell a car on foreign plates here. However if you browse the likes of donedeal you will plenty of non dealers doing it.

As you have already presented the car for VRT appraisal back in January then it could complicate things for any potential buyer when they go to VRT it as the VRT is supposed to be paid and car registered within 30 days of entering the country. Not really sure on this though.

Bit OT, but as you said - Irish resident, can not legally sell car on foreign plates in Ireland. But can a foreign resident sell foreign registered car in Ireland legally?

    thank you baz,
the car is in ireland since january, however i have it insured but the car is off the road until i get the money together to pay the VRT (had it and it went on another project!!)
can i apply to revenue for a refund as the car hasn't been used at all?

Did we not have a big inconclusive thing about that recently?

Refund of what? You never paid them in the First place

Yeah, that's why I mentioned as some well informed poster might appear anytime and explain how it works.

Sorry, what i meant was if i pay the original VRT figure €1600 due, can i look for refund of the late fee/penalties from revenue as car is "off the road"

Sounds unlikely tbh. Have you calculated the actual penalty?

I havent as i am not sure how this iis calculated tbh.

Best sell it out to the UK I would have thought. No law against that surely.

I'd doubt very much you will get a refund. The late fee/penalties are for not completing the VRT/registration process within the allotted 30 days since bringing it into the country, irrespective of whether you had the car on the road or not. Once you brought it for appraisal the clock starting running down.

I'd say your best bet is try selling it up in the North.
