They wouldn't be on my list of cars to buy in the ~1000 price range. That being said, I don't know much about them, but pugs from that era would worry me.

they could be a bit hit and miss...had one for years and took dogs abuse...but it did have its problems....you be doing well to keep drop links and wishbones in them....the body panels are a bit on the thin side and you can easily dent the car just by pushing your finger against it.... mine also had a random fault where it would just cut out randomly....of course peugeot denied there was a problem but later brought out a shielded crank sensor

Hi they wouldn't be the most reliable.

Have sold plenty and they sell well and look good but that would be about it.

Toyota Yaris or Nissan Micra or VW Polo would be a lot better.

Here something of what you should expect to find out there.

Don't fix yourself to one area as you are restricting yourself to whats out there.

    Those 1.2 3 cylinders are a complete disaster. I wouldn't touch one.

Just an example of whats out there not saying buy this one was just showing there are plenty under 100k miles.

I would prefer 4 cylinder myself but some like them.

Also op look at Skoda Fabia or Seat Ibiza as they are also good machines.

We have a 206. You do hear a lot of bad reports from them, but ours hasn't caused much bother. Fair enough there have been a few niggly problems, but you're going to get that with most 11 year old cars. I'm not that tuned in with it's rival cars and what they're like but my god the 206 is woefully slow to take off and build up to the 100k and it's quite noisy when it gets there. Apart from that its a fair decent car, looks alright and isn't too bad on juice!

A yaris would be your best bet op or a mk2 daihatsu sirion, which is the same mechanically as a mk2 yaris.

The Polo and the Fabia were woefully underpowered. Even in 1.4 form. The rarer 100bhp form may be okay, though I've never driven one.

I am going to have a look few 206s see how I work out

The driving position and pedal are supposed to be horrendous from what I've read. Also read they are unreliable but for some reason from my own simple observations and quite noticeable, there seems to be a hell of a lot of older ones still on the roads like 99/00 ones.

More reliable than 206 or 3 cylinder polos.
Quite economical and easy to drive too.

The main thing to look out on the 206's is wear/movement on the back axle bushings.
To check this grab the top of the rear wheels (12 O'clock postion) and push/pull as hard as you can...if you hear/feel a knocking noise then walk away or get them to drop €600 on the price..;)

Other than that there o.k. apart from the odd electrical gremlin..:)
