Blacklisted IP Address

Hi, I have Kerry broadband, recently my ability to download anything from piratebay etc has stopped completely. Initially i thought it was a problem with a firewall conflict, but checked that - it was ok. Make a long story short, I contacted KB to see if there was some problem that i was unaware of (everything else is fine), they told me that I may have been blacklisted. Checked this out and find that I am by two - b.barracudacentral.org, l2.apews.org.

Tbh I don't download that much, I know some people who are forever downloading with no issues!!! But that's neither here nor there, what I need now is to unblock/change my ip address, then use a vpn to stop this from happening again. How do i go about this, has anyone had the same issues and what did they do to rectify the problems.

Thanks in advance for any and all help/advice.

Well it would be up to Kerry Broadband to get your IP address unblocked if its a dynamic IP address otherwise if you have a static IP address, you could probably do it yourself.

Those are anti-spam blacklists which apply to email sending only, they would not in any way affect your ability to download torrents.

There are two more likely options:
    1. your ISP has been forced to block the Pirate Bay website by court order -- you can get round this by googling for a proxy
    2. your ISP is blocking the bittorrent protocol entirely (and is lying to you about it for some reason)

    hey, KB customer as well...

    It's without doubt KB...

They are no longer just traffic shaping and blocking the protocol, they are blocking the trackers ... if you can't connect to a tracker, you can't get into the swarm...

VPN is the only way, and frankly free VPN is a waste of time...therefore add up the cost, and tell KB to get stuffed. Permanet seems the only option...

if you are on linux you can use a service like openVPN to test this theory...

not sure if it's on windows...

have no problem connecting to the tracker once it's through VPN, i guess the logic from KB would be that they push the multiple connections a torrent generates out to a VPN server...

sucks balls...i'll be getting rid of them this week, which is a shame really, always preferred to support the local guys....

It wouldn't surprise me if KBB are blocking torrents entirely, they've always had a fairly strict anti-P2P stance.

Thanks for the info guys, checking when my 12 months with them is up, then I'm off! Funnily enough when i was doing heavy downloading never had any problems with them - now that they have given me an unlimited download allowance, I don't download much, and now I can't at all! Sucks balls for deffo!!!!!!!!! Prefer to support local but off to permanet i go.

Also having my own black listed problems albeit email. Can anyone explain why you always don't get a bounce back email when your email doesnt go through as this is the only way I can be sure the client is not receiving the emails.

The other thing that was suggested in the short term was to change my smtp settings from the hosting company we use to our BB provider (upc) which I did but not sure if this has done the trick. I understand the concept that I am on a shared server that has been blacklisted for one reason or another. With UPC you get a fixed IP, does this also cause a problem or is the blacklist issue only related to the shared server IP

Can the person you are trying to send the email to do anything there end to accept emails from you even though you are on a blacklist. Another words can they put an exception into there email client to allow emails or would the denial be occurring at their hosting company.

Update on KBB and downloading. As of yesterday, ability to download has been restored, however it is ridiculously slow, I mean we are talking dial up downloads speed - absolutely ****e in otherwords!
