Good PSU for GTX 770?

    Hi,

I'm looking to replace my dying GTX 660 Ti with a GTX 770: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-202-MS

However, I am concerned that my current PSU (Antec 520w High Current Gamer) is not sufficient, so I will need a new one.

Can anyone recommend a good PSU for my rig?

    1 Terabyte Hard Disk
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
    Nvidia GeForce 2GB GTX660Ti
    Intel i5 3570k
    ASRock Z77 Pro3 Motherboard
    8GB DDR3 1333Mhz Memory
Antec 520w High Current Gamer Power Supply

    Thanks.

It should do fine if it has the connections required the six pin and 8 pin express cables.

Don't know about that. Recommended wattage for GTX 770 is 600W. :/

There was an article somewhere, can't find it now, but basically you can run a 780ti, 3960x and 16gb ram on a 430w psu. They only say 600w to cover them in the case of a failure. If it was a lesser known brand you might worry, but antec are good.

Any other opinions? Would like a bit more reassurance before I decide to stick with my 520w HCG for the GTX 770. Don't want any accidents with my PSU. :(

    I can run a 290 on a 600w. 290 can draw 375w (according to some places?). 770 doesn't draw near that(250) so you're looking at 400w max system draw

gtx 770 is rated at 220 watts, your cpu is around 75 watts. Motherboard and other stuff will only use a few watts, so your max sustained power draw should be a little over 300 watts. Overclocking gpu and cpu might push that up by another 30-50 watts, although if you're doing anything extreme it might be higher. I'd say you're psu is fine as long as you're not going for anything radical in terms of overclocking.

One thing a lot of people don't realize is that gpus generally have a very rapidly fluctuating power draw. Tom's hardware started doing some measurements and plots recently. Basically if your gpu is rated for 220 watts, it will actually swing up and down between 140 and 300 watts every millisecond. Average max power draw over 1 ms will be 220 watts, but the instantaneous peaks are higher. A good quality psu will easily cover the rapid swings with the energy reserves in its capacitors, while a cheap quality psu may not.

You will be fine. I'd say your average load consumption would only be about 350w.

PSU's operate most efficiently in the 40-70% range of their max capacity.

Yeah as long as your PSU has the required connections for the card (ie not using any adapters) I reckon you'd be fine. I ran a 780 on a 600w for a month with an FX8350 and had no problem at all, and the 8350 draws a fair bit more than the 3750k as far as I know.
