    Yes you can.
But in general my life experience showed me that it always helpful to have good relations with neighbours.

Instead of reporting your neighbours, Why don't you simply ask them to move it if its blocking you?

Agreed. It's also good to have neighbours who aren't spongers.

Presumably its not insured either or is it? A report of an uninsured car might elicit a quicker response.

whats that got to do with anything?

I'm guessing OP got sick of looking at it, the neighbour using their garden for the motorcycles instead of for the car thus blocking their park space outside their house and a little about the neighbour not paying taxes. Purely speculation of course

1 . You have no rights to the space outside your house.
    2. Yes you can report it (although if it isn't used it's a bit mean)

And he's neighbour doesn't have a right to act a dick by dumping a car in front of he's house.

Nobody wants to look out of there house every morning to see a pile of junk sitting there.

Where I live we have to park in front of our houses. When I moved in here, my neighbour used to park he's Jeep in front of my house and park he's wife's car in front of the neighbours on the other side of them. Leaving a space in front of there own house for when the daughter/visitors would arrive.

He didn't seem to think there was anything wrong with this.

How will he, he hasn't spoken to the neighbour about it, so unless the neighbour has been reading this thread he won't know! ;)

There isn't anything wrong with it...just park in the space he has left outside he is own house.

The only issue here is the car is untaxed. It's an offence....would I report it? probably not.

Well you don't. Nothing stopping me from going and parking in front of your house and parking my car there for 2 months as long as it's free parking. The best thing I think you could do is to ask him if he wouldn't mind moving it because it would make it easier to unload shopping from your car etc. if that doesn't work just park somewhere else on the road.

Oh your car wouldn't be there after 3days, and I wouldn't have a clue where it's gone.

Nope.(but I wouldn't have moved into a place without adequate parking in the first place.)

If it's a public road then no, no you don't. Being oddly territorial about it is just a tad bit strange as well, haha.

It's not really about being territorial. It's common decency. There's X amount of cars on a road and X space. If everyone parks outside their own house there's still the same amount of cars and space so why be an arse and park outside someone else's house just because you can.

Ditching an unused car outside someone else's house is taking being a dick to another level again.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,733 ✭✭✭✭corktina

unfortunately there is no law against being a dick....the only issue is it not being taxed.

So you'd tamper with their legally parked car? Nice.

Give the man a break . Ask him to move his car or tax it ;)

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 17,733 ✭✭✭✭corktina

The OP has no grounds to do either....

(I'd be more inclined to say " the gard's were sniffing round your car early Bud, thought you'd like to know..." )

I won't pretend to have morals on something so trivial.
Abandon your car outside my house and I'll have it lifted, tax or no tax.

On what grounds would it be lifted? If the car is road legal and if the space outside your house has free parking, it can be parked there for as long as it wants. What law would be broken that would permit the authorities to remove the car?

Honest to god I think reporting his car would be a bad move . I've often been in a position not to tax a car because of funds . And although I now wouldn't dream of driving an untaxed car on the road , due to a friends run in with the five o . And his car being lifted ,, I think this car should be given a break

Dialogue is the best solution. It has prevented wars.
Talk to your neighbour and let him know that as he is not using the car etc that he might consider putting it into storage and that would facilitate you parking nearvto your house.
If he ignores you well then you have every right to report it to the local Garda Station as it probably is not insured either; and to park a car is to use a car and requires insurance while parked.
You also have the ammunition of his use of his house as a commercial premises probably without planning.
I dont think you will have a problem with him, if he has any sense.
Try the neighbourly approach first. Its nice to be nice.

Theft is a far greater crime than non payment, tbh I wouldn't risk that on my record for the sake of a parking space that wasn't mine to start with.

Neither would I, context of car abandoned outside my home, no parking spaces, and is not a parking space.

OP suggests a car parked outside his house, on street legally (baring tax issue) therefore not abandoned, even then interfering with a car that isn't your own is illegal, better notifying the authorities and letting them handle it.

No, not on a public road.

Yeah when I was declaring my collection junk off the road the garda said that it had to be on private property. She was being nice just warning me cos I had about 8 yokes declared and the fine would be big if some decker took offence

Local council should be dealing with abandoned vehicles, also a good idea to report it to the gardai as a safety concern if it's causing any kind of traffic issues (they won't like it but the matter will be registered).
