Last northbound coach is at 20:55.

This is the reverse of the well-known getting to Shannon in the morning problem.

Apart from a taxi/hackney, my only suggestions are:

Spending the night in a local B&B and using a local taxi or Bus Eireann's roue 343 Limerick-Shannon service

Spending the night in the airport terminal.

Travelling to Dublin and catching a CityLink or GoBus back. (This is totally mad, but is what some people end up doing for morning flights if money is more valuable to them than time.)

Yes, all of these pretty much suck as options, sorry.

I've found that transport from Galway to all airports except Dublin is awful. I'm getting a morning flight from Cork, and my only option is to spend the night in the airport.

Maybe try advertising for a lift on local radio?

Surely when you take the cost of an overnight stay into account it would have been cheaper and easier to fly from Dublin?

Probably, but I'm not the one who organised it. Ah well. Just one night bus is all I ask. They could even have one going via both Shannon and Cork, and arriving into Cork city around half five-ish.

Do you drive? Rental car would be another option.

Given that the two bus companies on the Galway-Cork route operate it as a commercial operation, they must feel that the cost of operating such late night/early morning services isn't outweighed by the potential revenues.

Indeed. And one of them dropped Shannon from the run. Says something about Shannon, really.
