I got rid of sky in jan, this was the only program I'd go out of my way to watch. You can see most episodes on YouTube ,so I'm hoping I can catch one on thee before they take it down. :0)

Ed's starting to get posh garage equipment - on-car brake disc skimmer, fancy parts washer, nice oil drainers, etc etc. I am jelly. He used to have a Halfords socket set and some aerosol cans.. jammy git.

Nice to see them going back to the regular joe cars like the xr2, not that i didnt enjoy the more expensive ones or the american classics.

Hopefully less of Mike this series. The removal of his makeup budget would probably allow them to make a few more episodes each year!

    Looking forward to it.

Cars that they will be doing this series...

They could clean up buying a few luxobarges over here and bringing them back over to the UK, polish them up and sell, bargains galore.

Oooh RX-7 should be a good ep!

I'm specifically horrified by the snake skin bbs Le Mans. Plus the previous owner pays them double what he sold it to them for ???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,290 ✭✭✭dar_cool

Ha ha bbs rims worth mad money and they put that ****e on them. Shocking. Car was way nicer before. Previous owner paid them 4 grand to wreck his car. Ha ha. Power upgrade nice and nice intercooler setup

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,258 ✭✭✭sogood

I'd go along wit the upgrade but the whole snakeskin wheels and graphics are beyond ridiculous, IMHO. And the original owner paid nearly double what he sold it for, just to buy it back!!

    Come back Mark Evans!!!

I loathed the car to start with. That Mazda Speed nose looked awful and the floppy bonnet would have me going mad having to look at it wobbling away in front of me. Car SOS was much better.

What was the blue convertible just out of shot as Ed and Mike discussed what they'd be doing with the RX-7? Looked like a completed car from another show. Presumably they film the 'delivery' and 'selling on' bits in batches.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,706 ✭✭✭120_Minutes

Mike stated in a live chat after last weeks episode that in an upcoming series he's doing more american cars and bringing Edd stateside for the first time.

Edd will also be working with Chip Foose on one of the cars. This probably comes from WD being shown on the same station over there as Overhaulin'. Mike also appeared on an episode of overhaulin where they do a lotus, and was interviewed.

It's instructive how the UK shows deal with the personal history of the car owners compared to their US counterparts.

Car SOS - 10 minutes of personal story, 50 about the actual car.

Extreme Car Hoarders - 59 and a half minutes of "My life's journey Part XIV", Car? what car?

or: TENSION, TENSION., TENSION, here's your car, tears. the end.

Didn't know about Car SOS until this thread, and I just watched the cortina episode. I've always wanted to see an overhaulin type show closer to home, and this was just great. how many episodes has there been?

I thought tge rx7 looks shocking. The best one so far was the xr2.

I only started watching SOS recently. They seem to do cars that have a strong history attached to them.

Didn't like the RX-7 much - too chav. The Porsche 993 was good though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,694 ✭✭✭BMJD

I love the RX-7, it's on my bucket list.

However...from the start, if they were after profit then surely buying one in need of a rebuild would have made most sense. It's relatively cheap and straightforward to do. Doing the compression test after buying it wasn't very helpful either. Also, I think standard cars are making more money these days so all that graphics ****e was a waste of time.

And Mike and Eddddd, we get it - Wankel is a hilarious word to say but it was getting a little bit tired the nine millionth time you said it.

Final gripe, just before the test drive, he started it up, revved it for a few seconds then shut it down; anyone with half a brain knows that's a big no-no with WANKel (lololol) engines.

Wheeler Dealers has become a bit of a parody of itself tbh. Its the mechanical side of it that has most people interest. Not the cabaret act of buying and selling. Which is a farce tbh. But its influencing the mechanics of it now, and in a bad way.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,487 ✭✭✭Pov06

I have to say, that RX7 looked so much better before they got it painted

They could have put that money towards more engine parts like changing the oil, filter or whatever.

How the hell could a little 1.3 put out 250-odd horsepower? I'm guessing it had something to do with it being a rotary?

very few, the Mazda RX-8 was the most recent and most likely the last of them which is a real shame

I think the blue car is a MG B Roadster, but I'm open to correction, from the blurry outline though that was my initial thought.

He does that nearly every bloody episode!! It does my head in!!!

He'll start up a car (that's usually been sitting up a while) starts revving it straight away... Takes it for a good old rip on the test drive and when pulling back in, knocks it off and yanks up the handbrake before the car has even come to a complete stop.

Absolute buffoon with no mechanical sympathy, typical used car dealer I suppose, you'd think Ed would've set him straight by now!

Not to mention Mike saying right at the start "I want a later model" yet he goes off and buys a 1994 edition.

They probably wont, but it's not good practice - especially from somebody that should be familiar with cars.

Cars wont "fall apart" from it straight away but a good general sense of mechanical sympathy goes a long way for a cars longevity!

So they ruined another Japanese classic, I dont think they get it, they see these kind of Japanese cars as something to be ragged around and not restored and cherished.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,694 ✭✭✭✭L-M

Aye but it is a TV show and I'm sure it's done in that manner on purpose to portray Mikes excitement about the latest purchase. I think people tend to forget that it's TV after all.

The RX7 has been around in some shape or form since the 70's. In fact i had a matchbox car of one as a kid in the early 80's

is 1994 not late enough for you?
