Restoring from a locked iPhone?

So, last year my iPhone 4S that I'd had for maybe 4 months was lifted and I locked the device. I bought a 5S and wanted to restore this as for my 4S. However, only restoration for my 4 came up and no sign of the 4S. Why is this? Is it because it was locked or what's the story?

    Any help appreciated!

I assume you mean restoring your phone to an iPhone back up? Maybe you never backed up the iPhone 4S with iTunes or are you trying to do this via iCloud? I don't think the phone being locked would affect your ability to access a back up of the phone.

I'm trying to do it via iCloud. Thought they automatically back up to iCloud?

Have you tried your iTunes? Might be backed up there

I actually never had it connected to iTunes on my laptop. Would that be the reason? Didn't think it needed to be to be backed up to iCloud?

No but did you enable iCloud backup or ever manually do one?

Pretty sure I did as I have all my contacts and reminders that were on the 4S just nothing else. So maybe it only ever backed up those and not anything else? But the 4S didn't even come up as an option to restore it.
