Bathroom Sink Unit

    Hi all,
    I am looking for some help in sourcing a nice bathroom sink unit. I am looking for freestanding sinks that sit on top of a table/unit but I am finding them almost impossible to find. (Well nice ones that is) I LOVE the Neptune range of bathroom furniture but it is extremely pricy. So I am looking for a cheaper alternative but something very similar. I don't particularly want plastic or dark wood units, something along the lines of country farmhouse. I would really appreciate any help.
    Thanks a million,
    Lollymob

    Hi,

    We are looking for EXCTLY the same as you at the moment! Did you have any luck in the end?

    We got a price from a local cabinet maker but it actually worked out more expensive than Neptune.

    Any suggestions??

    I was looking for the same and ended up building my own by copying the design from this;

    http://thespacebetweenblog.net/2014/10/06/diy-wood-vanity-master-bathroom/

    and got it t them fit exactly the space in my bathroom. Not much tools were needed, wood was 60 from Woodies (could have gotten it cheaper again if I went to a building suppliers), 25 for stain, 10 for varnish.

I would love to do something like this but we have just bought a house that needs complete redecoration so i dont know if wed have the time but if all else fails we might not have a choice. Thanks for the link we could end up using it. How did yours turn out?

    Turned out great! The top needs sanding and varnishing again (with a proper sander) but I'll get around to that. I did it in a hurry as the floors, bathroom, etc. is about to be fitted. I got most inspiration from reddit (http://www.reddit.com/r/woodworking are very helpful and you'll get a lot of ideas from there and other sub's)

    I looked around for vessel sinks and ended up getting one from this lad;

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LARGE-UNIQUE-NATURAL-RIVER-ROCK-STONE-SINK-/161522016725?ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:GB:1123

    Shipped to parcel motel in the north for 15 GBP!

    looking into this myself as we have a large space and most units are 1200mm max. what type of wood did you buy? also how do you find the countertop for water splashes? is the varnish enough to seal it?

    As this was my first woodworking project, I used pine as it was cheap. I intend on remaking it down the line with something a bit harder (after experimenting a bit more on bedside tables, etc.).

    The entire thing was stained with ronseal walnut twice, and varnished with a polyurethane based varnish (twice for the whole lot and three times on the top). When I get my hands on a decent sander, I'll sand the top again with a fine grit, and apply a 4th coat of poly. As is, it's pretty waterproof, the 4th coat + sanding is just to make it a bit smoother.
