Be serious, we will never get efibre. Looking forward to going back in time though. On a upbeat note, I was getting frustrated with my 2mb internet until it was taken away from me for 4 weeks, its back now I promise never to give out about it again.

Actually eFibre is already available in many rural areas, obviously just not all yet.

Also the rollout of eFibre is going incredibly fast, I've never seen such a fast rollout of any new internet technology at any telecoms company in any country in the world! I'm actually incredibly impressed with this rollout by Eircom.

I know that is comfort if it is still not available to you. But just hold on.

Speaking to a recently retired Eircom tech that was heavily involved in the VDSL rollout. He reckons that the next phase they announced to bring eFibre to rural exchanges will never happen.

I had pretty much the same conversation with a similarly recently retired eircom engineer, he reckons that rural exchanges that are not broadband enabled now, will never be. Makes sense to me, as its not a state company any more so why would a private company do something that was unprofitable?

Meanwhile, saps like us culchies are held ransom by satellite broadband providers charging an arm and a leg for poor service or have to sit in an awkward position with a mobile broadband dongle that losers connection if you sneeze!

I think he maybe out of the loop on this.

Eircom hadn't originally planned to do so many rural exchanges, but the threat of the new ESB FTTH network is forcing Eircom to upgrade faster and more widely then originally planned.

True, no guarantees, in the past Eircom have promised to upgrade exchanges and in the end never got around to them. However this time around, things do seem to be a bit different. Eircoms new management seem to be thinking much more long term then in the past and the VDSL rollout is going incredibly fast, I've been very impressed by it so far. So lets wait and see.

My money woud be on exchanges near current NGN nodes will get upgraded but those on radio links will be ingnored for the most part, and they're the ones who need it most.
