Remote locking installation

    Hi all,

My car (01 Golf Mk4) has manual central locking and unfortunately only came with 1 non-remote key when I bought it :(

I really wanted a remote system so I found this online :
    http://www.rclick.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=50&products_id=1112

Anyone have experience with this? It's a DIY installation but I am absolutely clueless where to start. It does say somewhere that it has to be connected to a module inside the driver's door but the instructions are quite vague :confused:

Would appreciate any input of your own experiences...maybe even throw up some names of people who can do this installation for a good price! :D

I don't know much about golf's. I presume all doors lock when you lock drivers door.

I wired something similar to a corolla and levin.

You should be able to tap into before the module in door. It's not the worst job.

I bought a kit from them about 2 years ago. (For an Octavia)

Got a guy to fit it, and he had it done in about an hour..Never ever a bother with it.

Only thing I would say is that I got the one with the "blank keys" on the fob, but I have yet found a key cutter that would cut the blank for me.

I keep getting excuses like,"oh those things will wreck my cutter" etc..

I did find one local guy that said he would do it for me, but despite numerous attempts to meet with him to get it done, he never turns up.

So, 2 years down the line, the remote part works as perfect as the day I got it installed, I just have to use the normal car key to start it.

Who did you go to to get it fitted? Do you remember how much it cost?
I rang up a couple of key cutting places in Cork, seemed like they were willing to source and cut a brand new key for me for ~150e, but were reluctant to cut the free key that I could provide myself...

Just checked a few days ago, and Tobin Auto on Tramore Rd is no longer there.

As an update for people who are thinking of installing remote central locks, I got my Remote set from Rightclick.co.uk. Very fast shipping and good quality, I'm very pleased with the set so far (3 wks)

Got it installed for 50 euro at Autogas on Tramore Rd. There were some hiccups which required a second trip back to the shop, but overall it was great value. Most importantly, they solder the wires for you instead of using the nasty scotchlok clips which come with the remote package!

    Glad you got sorted.

Sorry I never got back to you when you asked who done it for me, I just never remembered to come back to this thread.

I would buy from RightClick again though if ever needed.

    Great service.

Out of curiosity, where did you get yours installed? How was the service and price?

I installed a remote lock device on my car a few months ago, no problems so far. I forget where I got it, it was cheap anyway either ebay or amazon. Think it was less than a tenner.(I could be wrong with that price though. not 100% sure)

It was a friend of a friend..

He knows car alarms, central locking,,etc.. He's been in that business for 15 years or more.

Best thing for me what he called to me and fitted it in the drive.

    Think I paid €60.00.

I was happy with that to be honest...Service was fantastic..He arrived, took the keys, got started on it, and only took about 45-60 mins.

I was told be that it was a bit of a pain, as with the Octavia, the wiring had to be done through the passenger door, and not the drivers door.
