    Hi,
Recently purchased a 07 Focus 1.4, with a 3 month warranty, from a local car dealer in waterford. I've only done 250 miles since i've bought it, and theres 40000 on the clock. Last night the engine warning light started flashing, and the car started stuttering / losing power. The engine light then stayed on permanently but there was no further stuttering. I rang the garage i got the car from and they said there was nothing to worry about and to drive away and drop the car in when i get a chance, as I'm based in Dublin. Im worried that a problem developed so soon after purchasing the car. I'm just looking for advice on what to do?

    Thanks

Stop driving immediately, and get the car back to them asap. Don't keep driving, because if you cause any further damage they'll blame you and all you have is their word that you were told you could drive on

Possible coil pack problem, very common on the Focus of that vintage. Bring it back to the garage and they will replace it.

I would think it's just a coil pack needs replacing. I wouldn't drive it too far. Bring it to the garage asap.

I would take the car in straight away just in case.
I guess you could suspect that they may have had the engine management light switched off but these things can happen at any time.
A friend of mine was just about to sell his car two weeks ago and the day before he advertised it the release bearing, without any warning, went through the pressure plate.

See what they have to say and do

Ok, thanks for the replies. Hopefully that's all it is and they can sort it quickly. Had a mechanic check over the car beforehand but i guess that's something that could go at any time? The only thing is the garage is in Waterford and I have the car in Dublin so there's the 1hr 30 spin on the motorway home..

I'd push them to replace all coil packs rather than just one.
