EDT Lessons with 3rd Provisional

Hi all,

can't seem to find the answer to this question online so hoping you can help.

My boyfriend is on his 3rd provisional licence (never done driving test) so my question is does he need to do the EDT Lessons on a 3rd provisional or can he just do normal lessons and do the test?

his licence expires in May so were going to try get him 6-10 lessons asap,do as much driving and do the test with hope of passing before licence expires again.

If he's had a learner permit/provisional license since before the EDT requirement was brought in on April 4th 2011 he doesn't have to do EDT. A few proper lessons wouldn't do him any harm regardless. Best of luck. :cool:

thanks for the reply! he got his 3rd licence in May of 2012 so that's after the EDT requirement was brought in but does it still apply since its his 3rd licence?

He will for sure be getting proper lessons but just not sure if he needs to pay for the 12 EDT

Once he got his first permit before April 2011 he's grand.

how is he on his third if he hasn't sat the test? ... you can get two without sitting but need to show proof of failing the test before the third I thought?

You may apply for a learner permit with proof of an upcoming test appointment, in which case you'll get a one-year permit. With proof of a failed test, you get a permit that's valid for two years.

After the second licence expired he just had to re-sit the theory test to be able to get a third licence but he didn't have to show poof of failed test or upcoming appointment. He won't be able to get a 4th licence without showing proof hence why he wants to now sit the test.

I spoke to a very helpful driving instructor earlier so he's booked in for lessons and the driving test is booked also, fingers crossed

Something strange going on, what was the time gap between expiry of Permit 2 and May 12 also what is the code after the date beside Cat B car pic 99- ?
