I was looking at an 08 octavia petrol 1.6 today with 60k on the clock.
The dealer is looking for 8950 or 8k cash.
I'm trying to sell my own privately.

Is the price Ok. Anything I need to look out for.
His dad owned the car and at 80 just pottered around in it

    Thanks

Slightly on the pricey side but you'd expect that with a dealer.

Sister has one. Grand Motor, nice driver. Won't go far wrong with it.

What do you think is a real price?

That dealer is doing you no favour imo, considering this 2009 asking similar money:

Granted it's 1.4 but the 1.6 petrol is hardly more desirable, especially one a year older.

Friend recently got 07 Skoda Octavia 1.4 for 3500k euro but it's a high miler.
I think more than 8k euro on 6 year old Octavia is too much.

Try the prams in the hatch. I'd be very surprised if it couldn't cope with them.

+1 on this they'd want to be sum lump of prams not to fit in the boot.

Its not just a pram..its all that comes with a family.

I called my friend in kerry. He'll pop in and have a look at the octavia for me.

He knows his way under the hood of a bus so Im in safe hands.:D

If you're going for petrol estate avoid the 1.4. It's very underpowered and as a consequence thirsty as well. The 1.6 would be a less stressful experience. From 09 onwards the newer model with the wraparound headlights got much nicer TSI petrol engines. I have the 1.4 TSI myself and find it a pleasure to drive, plenty or power and mid 30's mpg in all town driving.

All Octy's are hatches (Apart from estates obv)

I don't want this to descend into a road tax debate, but be careful with 08 onwards petrols that are taxed on the co2 rates. The tax rates can be quite high.

514 for the Kerry car. Turns out someone I know works there.

I had the 1.4 Ambiente Estate, which I traded in the other week. 76,000 miles on the clock got €5,700, considering it need's a new black piece on the end of the front bumper, and the NCT was due to expire the following day. Mechanically it was bullet proof, only needed servicing. MPG was 30 around town, 45 on country/motorway, not surprising considering it only developed 80bhp, would easily get more out of the 1.6

How does the octavia ambiente 1.6 automatic rate as a car compared to the manual version?
    Thanks

Is it a dsg? Mine is a 1.4 TSI dsg a lovely car to drive I'm getting 32-34 mpg in town driving. Being 09 it has the 7 speed dry clutch dsg gearbox.

The hatch Octavia is noted for having a VERY big boot for a hatch/saloon.

So it may still be worth going to have a look to see if the Octavia hatch boot is big enough

I'm on the train to Kerry now to hopefully pick the car up.
A friend checked it out for me and it passed it's nct yesterday. Unless there is something major wrong I'll be driving it home tonight.
    I'll keep you posted :)

Best of luck. But are you not going to get a mechanic to check it over before you actually buy it ?

Best of luck with it. They're a great car you should get many years trouble free driving.

My friend has his own fleet of busses and does all the mechanical work on them himself so I got a good person to check it for me he also lives just up the road from the dealer and knows him. The nct would have highlighted any major problems as well. Plus it has a warranty.

    Wow, Octavia's going for 7k :O

I've been humming and haughing so much about replacing my 00 Opel Astra, baby on the way so was looking at something a bit bigger. I might need to look into this second hand car market a bit more serious.

Did that was a cash price. I knocked 1k off it.
I was looking at an 08 octavia in Dublin for 8k cash sale. 9with trade in.
Saved serious bucks going down to Kerry on the train.
Verdict. I just drove home in the car. Nice drive and handles well on the road. Had to be careful of speed. It was easy to press to hard on the pedal. :)
Found the car very roomy with a good spec. The boot is huge.
