    Is this 1.9tdi?
My friend bought 97 Audi A4 with 350k kilometres on the clock.
After the while he discovered that real car mileage was over 600k kilometres.
It still was running without any problems, and he had it for good few years.
So I assume those engines can live long.

its 1.9 straight diesel, yea i heard off a few people that they will do douple if not triple whats alredi on it but just want to be sure :P its very clean i dont think i have seen one as clean before it was standard 3 months ago its now lowered on bbs reps with a few gti goodies to spruce it up it has never been messed with engine wise its still completly standard, is there any common issues or faults with these yokes ? :) miles wouldnt bother me aslong as there as good as people say they are :)

We had a diesel vento that nearly to 300k. The engine was about the only thing that wasn't worn out. It was the non turbo 1.9. I hated driving it even when it had under 100k on it. Only got worse with age. The only saving grace was massive boot!

215k miles is not high for a car that is 17 years old but you ultimately need to judge the particular car on condition and any evidence of service history given it's age rather than a digit on the odometer.

The sills rot on them so that's something to look out for.

Check for rust, more likely to be the eventual killer of a diesel vento than the engine giving up. Just keep changing the oil and filters and Timing belt, and it should run to 500k miles no bother. Had a 300d Merc and always changed the oil and filter every 4000 miles. Bought it with 250 thousand on it, put another 125 thousand miles , and it would still be going only the chassis broke across over the back axle. These older, relatively unstressed diesels are virtually bullet-proof.

Just don't have a test drive in a 1.9tdi Passat, it'll sicken you to get back into the Vento!

cheers everyone some very good tips on here :) judging by the pics i have seen shes mint for a vento il be having a good spot for rust when i get to see it in the flesh but theres not a mark on it in the pics it doesnt look like a yoke that pulled cattle around for half its life. anyone have an idea what these are like to insure for a 19 year old with provo out on me own ? anything around 2k would be doable for me but all the better if it was less ? :P

My girlfriend's dad drove his 96 Vento to 380,000 miles and sold it 2 years ago. Still see it knocking around!

    EDIT

    Just saw this bit:

It's not going to be cheap. You would probably be a grand or so better off with a small-medium petrol engine at your age and on a learner permit.

Stick a set of RS8 wheels on her lad and a powerflow exhaust.
