Is this bike any good for a beginner cyclist.

Thinking of trying a triathlon. I can swim and run. I might never do one, its just a thought so I don't want to spend a fortune on a dedicated bike.

Something that I can use for everyday travel to work and could double as a novice triathlon bike would be perfect.

If anyone could give me some info or ideas that would be great.

It's a basic bike for commuting and going to the shops.

As a triathlon bike? Well, would you do the running part of the event in a pair of hiking boots, or the swim part in jeans and a jumper? Same thing with the bike then.... :D

Cheers, thanks for the advice. What's the minimum I would have to spend to get a bike anywhere near doing a triathlon with? Remember that I have never done one, and would probably only ever do the one, as a thing to say I've done.

Maybe you know someone who owns a road bike that would lend it to you for your first event?

Minimum of €500 and that would be a 2nd hand/used bike off adverts..

    new? €1200 upwards..

I bought this about two weeks ago for €185 delivered. Similar spec to Halfords Carrera Crossfire @ €295. Sports direct have a Muddyfox road bike @ £175 or an Everlast £179 which I would have thought would be better suited for a Triathlon/Road bike.

For what it's worth the Muddfox hybrid arrived three days after ordering it. Requires very little assembly (front wheel quick release and handlebars.) Didn't need to adjust the brakes. Gears needed a slight tweek. Easy to do with the help of instructions/youtube video. Good precise gear range, good brakes and comfy ride due to shocks. I use mine for a 2.5 mile commute mostly. Can't fault it to be honest.
