I am in my rented accomodation 9 years and the carpet is driving me nuts! It is beige and tightly woven - not sure what its called. But its obviously hard wearing which is why he put it down. However it holds any stains - no matter what. I have tried all sorts to clean it including rug doctor and the stains remain.

    Anyone got any magic formulas?

Ask the landlord to replace it. You've been there nine years I reckon he owes you that.

If it's a cheap carpet, you wasting your time trying to clean it.
But if it's decent cleaning would work.
Renting 9 years, tried hounding landlord for new carpet?

Rent a carpet cleaner. Half scrubber, half vaccuum cleaner. I find they work quite well on that kind of hard wearing officey carpet.

I have already done that but might try it again. It's a good carpet - but it has been laid a**eways! Threads pulling at the edges etc.

The Tesco ones are not that cheap (and you pay extra for dedicated detergent) compared to paying somebody who cleans carpets for a living.
