A 5 man midfield isn't as congested when one of the midfielders is a CAM and 2 play holding midfield... As for wingers not a whole pile of ours work as hard at the back as they do up front so bar Valencia (who was fairly alright against the greeks) we would be light. This midfield could accomadate both kagawa and mata if one played on the left wing and one in cam.

Up front its the effective and obvious double of Rooney and rvp.

Maybe its just me but I think this would be extremely effective against a lot of teams.

The success of the 3-5-2 or wing-back system, really hinges on whether you have quality wing backs, and you say we are light.

Possibly Rafael has potential to develop in that role, not sure anyone suitable on the left.
A younger Evra perhaps could have done it.
