I would take Roddy Collins at this stage.

If (and I think it's a big if), Moyes is sacked before end of season, what would people think of Phelan taking over? Maybe with Giggs/Meulensteen?

I feel sorry for Moyes, it's just not working out for him and he seems a genuinely good man.

A repeat of yesterday's result and performance vs City should be the final straw.

A new manager would possibly bring delays on transfers too, as Moyes "targets" may not be the same as a new manager's.

How do you know he never got the offer?

Fergie decided at Christmas 2012 that he was going to retire. Pep announced he was taking the Bayern job in January 2013.

Ah fair enough didnt realise it was that time. When Fergie decided and when he let others know and the recruitment process started is a whole other matter. There's a reason we only heard rumors a few days before if was officially announced.

After watching the game yesterday and watching a player like Mata look like Munster senior league player I realise it can happen to anybody under Moyes.

Here's what I said in January:
everybody is so busy lauding the arrival of Mata they seem to have forgotten that he probably won't make a damn bit of difference.

He will be a world class attacker playing in front of some pub league midfielders, and that will work about as well as you would expect.
What are you all going to do if we sign Mata and he looks every bit as disjointed and ineffective as Kagawa does due to the complete lack of support from midfield?

I think this has proven to be somewhat accurate. We could have saved ourselves £37m and just played Kagawa for the last three months for all the difference Mata has made.

You know things are bad when my mother who has little interest in football asked me why are United gone to sh1te.Wasn't expecting that when I called to see her earlier.

Heard rumours of Giggs falling out with Moyes,we all know Rio's thoughts.Found a link to it,didn't want to post anything without a link.

    http://www.offthepost.info/blog/2014/03/man-utd-boss-david-moyes-falls-out-with-ryan-giggs-angers-rio-ferdinand-with-phil-jagielka-comparisons/?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+offthepost%2FTLAa+%28Off+The+Post%29
The latest edition of Red Issue claims that club legend Ryan Giggs recently skipped a coaches’ meeting, later telling Phil Neville it was “pointless, as Moyes doesn’t listen”.

Giggs is also said to have stormed off the training ground after a recent two-hour defensive session.

And the fanzine also claims that Rio Ferdinand has fallen out with Moyes after growing tired of being asked to emulate the efforts of Everton centre-back Phil Jagielka.

    The reports claim:

“Moyes did not like being asked ‘how does what Jagielka would do have anything to do with how United do things?’”

    City will annihilate us.

Would not mind seeing Giggs in there somewhere, no sure about Rene

No. I can read what Ferguson himself has stated.

    http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2013/05/12/3974259/sir-alex-i-decided-to-retire-at-christmas

I also know when Guardiola took a job as when the news came true . . . I looked at the date.

    From that article...

    "probably around Christmas"

"And he has admitted that he struggled to keep the news under wraps, having not even told members of his immediate family until the official announcement was made"

    Also

    http://www.express.co.uk/sport/football/398160/Sir-Alex-Ferguson-tells-Manchester-United-it-s-David-Moyes-time-at-Old-Trafford-now

This article says Ferguson told the club in February that it was his last season.
    After Guardiola was announced.

Lads, who took what job and when is irrelevant at this stage.

Currently Moyes is United manager, Pep is Bayern manager. That's all that matters at this point.

Could well happen, if SAF was in charge all season and getting these results (hypothetically), you'd still think that City could be beaten next week. Old Trafford, home game, local derby. Just can't see it with Moyes.

Same for Wednesday, 2-0 down; under Ferguson fans would think it can definitely be done, 3-0 win is well possible. Now, we just can't imagine that happening unless there's a vast change in tactics.

If you were to pick Giggs, who else with him? Round/Phelan/ G. Neville?

There's plenty of reasons for him to walk.

    fan pressure? player pressure?

I reckon I'd still wait to be sacked.

the only thing I can think of apart from that is that he wants to save some face so that if he gets even worse he's not unemployable. I don't think that'll happen though. he's proven what he can do for a club like Everton. he'll always be employed by clubs who need stability, and want to get to a level just below the top 4.

he may as well ride this out, get his contract paid off, then roll into another job not long after that.

Was debating with a buddy if going out to olympiakos wud be a blessing in disguise, any of the remaining teams wud give utd a right hiding. Utd haven't a hope of winning it anyway.

Wud have been in favour of giving Moyes time to change around an ageing squad but his use of Mata and overall ineptness has me rethinking that one.

Who do we get in as manager if we sack Moyes? I think that if we slipped to 14th over the next couple of weeks that Moyes would still see out the season.

The right man for the job is Klopp but there is no way we could get him.

Slipping to 24th in a 20 team league would be should be some achievement.

There's only 20 teams in the league!

I think he'll stay till the end of the season regardless, he needs to go at the end of the season though. We're not only not improving, we're deteriorating further. Enough is enough.

I wish the players were as **** as Moyes makes them play.

It makes it much worse when you know they are nowhere close to this bad.

How he managed to get worse as the season went on I'm not sure but its an achievement in its own right.

Nobody would want the tag of dragging down a club in the way it could end up if he stays.

I think he's a decent man and will maybe come to a mutual agreement in time.

That's quite common these days. People who haven't a clue about football or never spoke about it before saying things like "What's happened to Man United?"

David Moyes happened, now piss off!

Just watching Moyes' interview tells you all you need to know about him this season.

75th minute until he made a sub, he's been doing this all season, and with Everton his whole career there.

Tactically he sets up the team up, and doesn't ever adjust until it's too late/or an injury. It's very formulaic, static and not the Manchester United way and he will never change his ways, his stubborness is like Fergies, he was 'cut from the same cloth' as Fergie, remember?

Getting hammered by Liverpool and just accepting it, he should be sacked just for that.

Wouldn't be so sure. I don't think it'd be the best way for him to play his cards.

If he leaves due to a mutual agreement, he's essentially admitting to the world that he wasn't up to the job and he is the main problem.

If he waits till he's sacked, he'll get a bigger pay off and will be able to claim 'the squad I was left with wasn't good enough', 'expirienced players let me down' etc. which will be lapped up by a small but not insignificant proportion of the footballing sphere in the UK and his reputation will be preserved somewhat.

Been out all day. Had hoped to come home to good news. Doesn't even seem to be the usual Twitter rumor mill though :(
