Moyes on team: " I am asking Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini to both fill in at centre-back today."

Fellaini marking Carroll from set peices one would assume..

The most harmless 6'2" character since Big Bird is playing CB against Andy Carroll, this should go well.

Really interested to see the attacking side of things from us today, the defending side of things, Buttner and Carrick :pac: should be fun.

    Best form of defense, attack..

I've seen him make mistakes in 5 highlight packages in that period and I can confirm that he is indeed a terrible player. Unlike Flanagan, the best young full back around right now.

Flanagan is steady but average, arbeloa type.

You didn't see him today then.

Was more than a hint of sarcasm in my post.

Dreading the set pieces from West Ham. Evra may have been a better shout at CB.

Great to see Kagawa starting but if it's from the left he probably will have minimal influence.

Also disappointed to see Young starting, who was useless when he came on mid week.

A real shame about the defence and Moyes hand being forced. Only decision really was whether to play Evra at CB or not, which I would have preferred. Glad to see Buttner getting a run out. Evra really has no business being at left back any more.

Hoping for a win but predicting a West Ham victory. 2-1. Nolan and Carroll for West Ham, Rooney for Utd.

    That backline. Holy moly.

Carroll to score and West Ham to win is 15/2. Just saying.

Why would you prefer Evra at cb? Can't recall him ever playing there before and it's not like he's great in the air.

    Be grand lads, 1-1.

Evra is outstanding in the air.

    Kagawa first goal easy game.

United 3-1 I reckon (Shinji, Shinji, Shinji and Shinji OG), well it would happen if he plays in his best position.

edit - did it again Mars -_-, meant for matchthread ^

It's the defending he can't handle!

He has played there before and he's excellent in the air, certainly much better than Carrick.

Think he will be playing from the left.

Nowhere near as much as Carrick though, Evra may also be in need of a rest with City in mind. Agree to disagree about Evra's aerial prowess.

So RVP is out of both legs of the quarter final ?

I reckon Kagawa has a good chance of starting then, behind Rooney (given Mata is ineligible).

Makes sense to give him some game time

I think the fact we only have two instances in the space of a year shows it's not that he is massively putting his head out there for Moyes. Publicly he might back him, but no one knows what he'll be saying behind the scenes, and no one actually knows how much power Fergie actually has.

Give the manager time has been a mantra of Fergies for as long as I can remember.

I was wondering how he felt about Moyes after results this season.

The fact that he's come out this week to reiterate his belief in giving a manager the time to get things right says to me that Moyes is going nowhere.

Fergie is a proud man. Very aware of his status in the game and at the club. No way he's going to say anything that could come back to bite him, make him look out of the loop at Utd, not influential. So if he's sticking by 'give your manager time' then I think it's safe to say Moyes is secure.

Better than Beckhams in my book. Far more difficult on the half volley.

Regardless of how he plays tonight buttner needs to play every game between now and bayern to get him up to speed. Cant have him coming up against bayern with only a few cameos to his name

Unreal that Beckham is actually there today!

He must be feeling so old! Was that goal 15+ years ago?

    Same end too? Think so.
