I posted the original bargain alert and forgot to link it here, (cheers sham) and have just updated it. Basically, to book directly with KC, the same deal will cost you €230 ( €95 for the golf and €20 for the food p/p ). Great reduction. Sarah in the pro shop did say that Saturday slots were being ripped up by Livingsocial customers, so if it's a weekend slot you want, get in quick !

Good deal alright but the Smurfit course there is not worth the full GF of €95

A fourball along with a a Burger & Chips for €178 works out at €45 euro per head. Seems excellent value to me. Never played the course but walked it many years ago when attending the European Open.

Anyone played it recently care to let me know what its like to play

Played it back in November. On one of those offers also. Fabulous course. Fairways were pretty soft, there was placing everywhere though. The rough was very soft. Greens were a bit slow but I guess in November you couldnt expect Augusta.

Around the 7th or 8th hole however I actually couldnt find my ball on the green because of all the leaves that were on the green. Which suggested to me a lack of grounds staff. That annoyed me. (I did eventually find it!!)

Other than that I enjoyed the day out. The burger and chips were lovely. But be warned. If you fancy a pint with your burger, the price of it might ruin the taste :p

There is plenty of other things wrong with the place to suggest a lack of grounds staff but not leaves on the green. It's the same most parkland courses in the country at that time of year.

Most parklands have that issue for sure but this was particularly bad. Not being able to find the ball on the green was pretty annoying and I had never had that problem anywhere else. Most places would have their greens blown clear.

The leaves were so bad we didnt even bother clear them for our putts as we would have spent an age doing it.

Seems like a reasonable deal alright, but I've already played it enough times to have been cured of any rush to get out there again, especially at this time of year and in this weather (although its looking fantastic out there today the going is still soft to heavy, to use a topical term this week!).

Its a good course, but I'd rather spend the money on the Monty or Adare, or or or....

Thanks for info. We will leave booking the Tee-Time till late in April when hopefully most parkland courses are a lot firmer and the weather a bit more reliable. Not a bad price to tick another course off my wishlist.

its the smurfit course and not actually the K-club itsself! Don't rate it at all played it twice last year for €50 a round would nt be in a hurry to rush back!! Think its living of the K club very see able lack of work done on the course when I played on both occasions hardly any sand in the bunkers and there was lots of cut grass on the semi rough which made finding your ball near impossible!.

Played it on Monday - place was empty, course was scrappy. Feel sorry for ground staff when a) the team must have been cut back and b)the crows have ripped the greens to shreds.

And €7.50 for a pint bottle of Bulmers mid-strength. Mad. I could have had seven and a half Mars Bars for that.

Good review as always Kevin and I'd agree with almost all of what you say in it.

I have always thought that the course is overrated. Don't get me wrong, it is a very good, very tough course and I've always enjoyed it - although I've struggled to play well there (perhaps I was a bit intimidated the first time, I don't know). But compared to the magic or mystery or whatever of the Palmer Course next door, it just doesn't cut it. It is simply too expensive for what it is, and Irish golfers just aren't impressed enough to pay that anymore. Maybe its a result of having so many really good courses available, and at better prices, that has meant they're being left behind. €7.50 for a bottle of cider is just taking the mickey too!

By the way, its definitely the Kildare soil - dark, heavy and still wet!! Up the road, Naas and Palmerstown are both still quite boggy - in PH's case its just in the off-fairway, green to tee areas (fairways are in great nick) - and my back garden still squeltches a bit when I walk on it!!!
