Tesco mobile broadband launches: 15GB/€15 PAYG

Tesco Mobile have launched both PAYG and Pay Monthly PAYG plans. The stand out offer is the PAYG 15GB for €15 when you set it against €22 for 15GB on a 3 12 month contract and €20 for 10GB with the likes of Vodafone contracts.

There is a 30 day contract of 50GB for €30 SIM only. It compares well with 3's 60GB for €35 plus its on the much faster o2 network than the poor 3 one at present (I know as I am on the 3 Broadband Pro contract). They have not put up details of their contract for the Mifi device yet.

Are they accepting Supervalu and Dunnes vouchers for this too?:pac:
Nice to see a bit more competition to the market now.

The 3g for €15 over 3 months will suit some people aswell, pity they dont have a good introductory offer on the mifi device

I asked on the TM forum as to what happened to that 50GB for €30 offer and the only response I got back is that it may be on offer at some time in the future but that for now they are only offering the plans listed i.e. no greater than 15GB. Bizarre.

Its going to be a big flop if this is all they are offering.

Can you tether on this package ?

Tether? It is a mobile broadband option, not a mobile data add on. This is used with a personal WiFi router.

Its looks as if they have suddenly pulled the whole mobile broadband section off their website!!

Yes. If they were actually offering anything, which they are not at the moment. They pulled the whole lot off their website.

TM rep says they have had performance issues on the website and will be putting the broadband back up again shortly.

** Sorry see its on the O2 network

If someone in your family has a student card (or is even a student!!) then it might be worth checking out 02s student deal. You have to sign up for 12 months but its a tenner a month for 15gigs and if you go over your limit its essentially a tenner for 15gigs thereafter too. Kinda comparing apples with oranges as its a contract but might suit some. Now if only my unlimited fixed line broadband could do something above 1.8 meg I wouldn't need all this.

Seems a good deal for PAYG. I was under the impression it's difficult to unlock dongles though, O2 don't seem to want to unlock them.

I had a three mobile Mifi dongle, after 2 years wanted it unlocked , three said they don't give you a code to unlock it, took it to a shop in Dublin CC and paid €10, took 2 minuets to unlock.

Must look into it here, thanks. Between topping up with €15 a month for free any network calls, and using the €15 for internet on the mobile and texts, and this offer, €30 a month goes a pretty long way with Tesco mobile.

Some of the wifi hotspots are not very good. I think I got an e585 off O2 with the student deal and I found I had much better mobile signal and wifi reached further by using a cheap android phone with wifi tethering turned on.

I use my mobile phones portable hotspot. I am on three bill pay so i get unlimited data for 20 per month. I also get to use it as a phone and get 350 mins a month for 20.33 a month.

I've found that an unbranded mifi/dongle work alot better than those supplied by the carrier. I was with a different MBB provider getting downloads of 2mb.got my hands on the same modem (e5220) unbranded and was getting speeds of 4-6mb.

Begs the question as to what sort of restrictions these MBB providers have on their devices.

I have a few vodafone mobile broadband sticks lying around (K3765, like this one)

If I unlocked them, would they work with a Tesco Sim? Thanks.

I can only answer in my own case but when I unlocked a 3 Huawei dongle using a Tesco Mobile SIM to bring up the unlock prompt it immediately connected to the o2 network which TM uses.

I bought one of them a few years ago from another bargain alert and it was sim free, I still use it with a 3 sim in it.

At that time none of those Vodafone dongles were locked so you might be lucky with yours.

No 4G though... And probably none until o2 launch it, which probably won't happen until o2 gets bought by three

Am i right in thinking that this is essentially 15 quid a month the payg option for the 15 gb,

So if you use 2 gb first month your other 13gb does not keep going till its used up... ???

No, it looks like it's 'use it or lose it' - the 15gb expires after 30 days

    Hello lads,

Interested in availing in this offer. The 15 euro / 15GB pay as you go is what I'm looking at.

Have an old Meteor mobile broadband dongle (Huawei E180).

    1. Will I be able to use the Tescos broadband sim in this device once unlocked?
    2. I have the unlock code for this device but I don't actually know how to unlock it. Where do I enter the unlock code? Any assistance appreciated.

    Thanks :)

Put the tesco sim into the dongle, plug it into your pc and it will then ask you to input unlock code

Hey thanks. Will attempt this tomorrow.

    :)

Any non-Meteor network SIM will do the trick. Once it detects a non-Meteor SIM a dialog box will ask you for the unlock code. You have 10 goes at unlocking it after which it stays permanently locked.

Using the 15Gb payg option now with an Alcatel 4G mifi I picked up as a refurb on Amazon getting about 7mbps down and 1 up with a ping around 100ms in rural north Longford.

Only small hassle was that I needed to ring Tesco mobile support to get the APN as what loaded automatically was incorrect.

    The correct APN is tmidata

    Leave everything else blank.

Sorry I couldn't get to do a good test last night as there were two others using the connection at the time but even at that I was getting 2mbps down and the ping was still around 100ms.

Don't know if my speeds are representative as it is a very rural area. Might be better to ask around as to how O2 broadband performs in your area as I think the performance should be similar to what Tesco mobile now offer.
