NI Railways flat fare Sunday

I've been a semi-regular traveller on the Derry-Belfast line over the years but its fair to say on Sunday mornings in the past I might well have been one of the dozen or so passengers leaving the Waterside en route for Belfast.

Not so today. I travelled out this morning from Derry to catch a plane to London from Belfast City. My fare? £7. The whole way to Sydenham from Derry. How many passengers on the train? From Derry the train was one half full. The train filled up at Coleraine and by Antrim it was standing room only.

Now I did not pay for my fare in advance. Just turned up and went. Clearly the promotional fares are working and are driving passengers onto the trains.

Great stuff! Proves what can be done when fares are lowered on a line that has real potential.

Grrrrr, damn and blast them Nordies ...They've gone and stolen our thunder yet again !!!!

From a Dublin Bus perspective, this should have been one of the FIRST advantages of having and using a Leapcard.......make it worthwhile and it will SELL !!!

Men, it has been well said, think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one.

They had these in 2008 so they've well beaten us there...

Had an onboard ticket seller forget they existed, sell me a full price ticket (I wasn't aware either) then come back and exchange/refund me after someone further down asked for one and he remembered he'd charged me full fare.

Let's face it, everything the PS delivers north of the border is better than it is here, it's a mindset thing.
Our politicians and civil servants are convinced the only way to make anything pay is to charge the highest possible price for it, they can't seem to grasp the concept of value for money.
