Going from Engineering to Teaching?

I'm currently doing Mechanical Engineering in university. If I wanted to change, what would I have to do to teach, say Maths, JC Science, Physics, Chemistry and/or Applied Maths etc. at second level? Would my current degree count towards anything?

I'm planning on continuing with engineering and getting an engineering related job, but I'd like to know if there's an alternative.

There was an extensive thread about it here about 2 years ago I think...or it could have been on the mathematics forum..there was even a ' maths off' between the business folk and the engineers to show who was mathsier...

Anyhow the upshot for engineers.. Go to the teaching council...pay them to review your course and they might suggest further modules for you to do to get accredited...then do the 2 year hdip... The teaching council seem to change their requirements so dont go by what previous folk have done..

Read the wannabe teachers thread too...it aint all milk and honey...3 months holidays is no good when you've no job or pay.

Mam's a teacher and Dad's an engineer, so I think I've a good idea of what both are like!

So, provided I've some of the modules (surely I could at least cover maths and physics?!) all I would need is the HDIP?

Most engineers who switch have to complete an extra module with Open University in order to be recognised to teach Maths.
