Hey my mate Richard wants to get a gaming pc like me
He is buying my GPU from me (hd 7870 xt boost) in almost perfect condition for a good price (150) and it still plays 1080p on all the big games with really good FPS so he does not need a GPU. I'll clean it out with compressed air again when he gets it.
    I'm going to get a 1440p screen maybe during summer and a R9 290 windforce soon (that's why I'm selling my GPU)#

    1. What is your budget? [€1000] including the €150 for the gpu

    2. What will be the main purpose of the computer? [Gaming]

    3. Do you need a copy of Windows? [Yes]

    4. Can you use any parts from an old computer? [No]

    5. Do you need a monitor? [Yes]

5b. If no, what resolution is your current monitor and do you plan to upgrade in the near future? [NaN]

    6. Do you need any of these peripherals? [Keyboard/Mouse/Wireless Card/Card Reader/Speakers/etc.]
He should have a good gaming mouse and keyboard and wireless card and headset

    7. Are you willing to try overclocking? [I would do it for him if safe, so yes]

    8. How can you pay? [Credit Card/Laser]

    9. When are you purchasing? [In summer]

if he replies to this forum on his own account then please ignore me and answer him instead :3

Come back in the Summer. Stuff will have changed too much between now and then for anything now to be of use.

^^What he said. The new 8 series from Nvidia will be out by then :)

What price range will the 8 series be around? (if you know)

and will new Nvidia GPUs(and CPUs?) really make the other parts (cases, wifi cards, PSUs etc) not be of any use?

I'm planning on getting an r9 290 windforce soon, is that practical?

I'd wait a little while, to be honest. If the 750/Ti are anything to go by, the 800 series will shake things up quite a bit.

No idea on pricing yet but the way Nvidia are going im sure it will be competitive against an r9 290. Id hold off until they come out because if nothing else AMD may lower prices to be competitive :)

I've not seen anyone calling Nvidia competitive on there top end cards for a long time so as much as i'd like it to see it happen i highly doubt the prices will be good.
Maybe they will try with the mid to lower end of the market? :p

Well with the 750 and 750ti they are pretty competitive. Even the 760 is a reasonable price per performance. Sure the 780ti is a little hard on the pocket and not to mention the titan but some of their more recent tech has been actually good for price vs performance.

Im not a fanboy of either as both my rigs feature AMD and Nvidia but its always smart to hold off on a purchase when theres some competition due on the market soon. Always nice to have the option :)
