Handcrafted Handles - Batch #2

Batch #2 of beautiful hand turned timber brush handles from the very talented 782sirbrian from TSN.

I had to order some more, I just think the idea of someone crafting these in their back garden is truly amazing and then for me to have an opportunity to contribute to the final product by setting knots (yes, the limit of my DIY talents) just makes for a more special end product.

All handles set to take a 24mm knot.

Incredible. I still wish himself and New Forest Brushes would find each other.

Another nice batch you got there jpb. I've only set the knot in one of my own brushes and it's quite satisfying every time I use it.

It'll never happen.. Fido seems conservative about New Forest Brushes and doesn't really have any interest in pursuing other avenues. He seems to be quite content with things as is... which is fine, but I wish he'd at least break out and make his handles in a few different resin types other than faux ivory.

Do you mind me asking if you buy the knots separately or make them up with the hair? If you can buy 'em I'd love to know where so I could maybe make my own after my current brush wears out...

You can get the knots from The Golden Nib - google them - and you can also find them on eBay.

Some other places too have them.

They look great. So how many brushes do you own now?

9 by this craftsman, but way too many in total... I got hit by the brush bug. After vowing to never pay over €100 for a brush, I can now confirm that that is in fact a pure lie.

    These are next -

Yeah I was wondering about a total number. There is a guy on B&B who has a good bit over 100 at this stage.

Somewhere in the region of 40 maybe. Nothing too high end. Simpsons Chubby 2 in Best probably the most expensive.

I nearly got a Chubby 2 in best. The week I finally had enough spare cash to pay for it happened to be the same week that Simpsons decided to increase the prices of their brushes by something like 40%. I decided I didn't want to do any business with them after that.

Here is another site for handmade brushes. I want to get on of his brushes

I'm a fan of the old barber style brushes.

Yeah, pretty cool. El Druida is making me a barber shop style.

Where did you hear that Simpsons had increased their prices 40%? I can't remember how much I paid for mine, but I bought it from Executive Shaving using the a discount code from another forum (-10%).

My mistake, after looking into it they went up by 20% which worked out to be about €35 at the time I think. I couldn't believe it when I went to buy it from Shaving.ie and it had jumped in price from the week before.

I'm curious as to whether the price rise is across the board for all suppliers. I haven't seen anything on any of the other forums about price hikes.

It was an across the board price hike after Simpson brought in a minimum pricing policy. They made vendors up the pricing (from what I remember) for 'brand exclusivity' they termed it at the time.
