    Nobody was none the wiser?

How did the worker know the roof was leaking?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,523 ✭✭✭Reckless Abandonment

Who called to get the leak fixed ??

Hang on.... How would you know there was a leak without being in there beforehand?

    Remains not discovered?

I'm more interested in the typo than the mystery.

.Despite not been lived in for as many as six years the house was never broken into and never fell into disrepute.

    I think they meant "disrepair"

This story hits one of the saddest things in my opinion. Dying and nobody noticing. Happens all the time but 6 fckin years?

There is also a very unfortunate editorial error in this article if you can spot it.

It's very sad alright, not one person came to look for her. I read this one recently, this woman was 8 years dead before she was found :(

There was a good drama/doc about a similar case in the UK with Zawe Ashton in it. Worth watching if you get a chance

The neighbour wont be getting paid for all that lawn cutting now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,256 ✭✭✭Ronin247

What are the odds that someone will sue someone for something over this?

    Bank worker for trauma/shock.
    Neighbour for lawn services.
    Relatives for the house.
Relatives because no one looked after her.
    Relatives for distress/shock

There will be lots of relatives popping out of the woodwork now

Mistake is " Nobody was none the wiser" is my guess

I'm going to invest in a live-in maid. I'd hate to think my house might fall into disrepute if I croak and nobody misses me.

There was a story of someone dying in East Berlin* and only being discovered about five years ago.

*it was in East Germany at the time.

"Cause of death won't be known until a toxicology report is returned but early reports suggest there were no signs of trauma"

    despite her being mummified hmmmmmm

This documentary is so surreal, especially to think that the woman was so young, vibrant and popular in her social circle. The story stayed with me for ages after watching it, it's very poignant :(

Some more details for the local paper:
Who called to get the leak fixed ??
Undersheriff Mike McCabe said neighbors had complained about a hole in the home’s roof and said raccoons were getting in. The company managing the house for the mortgage holder sent a repair man.

Dr. Bernardino Pacris, the Oakland County deputy medical examiner who conducted the autopsy, said the skin was intact, though internal organs had decomposed. He said he found no evidence of internal or external injuries.

Pacris said that in the mummification process, skin will develop a parchment-like consistency and leathery texture. Climate, weather and humidity play a role, he said.

He said finding a body in that condition is unusual, but “once in a while, we see this.”

How did the neighbour not realise he hadnt seen her in years!!!!

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Dreams of a life really stuck with me because she was so young its easier to understand older people with little or no family. But she had family was even wrapping presents for Christmas when she died.

Scary stuff, she was pretty young to not be missed by anyone.
I've heard of old people without relatives or friends lying dead for months and years, but a 40 something old woman should have someone missing her.

So, she lay mummified and also was found sitting upright.

That's what intentional mummification involves ... Natural mummification is caused by environmental conditions.
