    1. Do 99 Polos use timing belts, or chains?

    2. If they use belts, after how many miles should the belt be replaced as preventative maintenance?

    3. If this has already been done, will it be logged in the car's service log book?

    3. If this has already been done, will it be logged in the car's service log book?

Like any maintenance, if the person that did it fills in the book, yes.

    To answer your questions:

    1. It has a timing belt.
    2. Every 60,000 miles is the usual replacement interval but it should be inspected for condition at each service.
    3. It should be logged in the book but there is no guarantee. Often a mechanic will 'paint' the last replacement in TippEx under the bonnet with the mileage when it was replaced. It might read something like "T/B 56k" or simply the mileage "56k" or whatever the mileage happened to be at the time.

I was wondering where you got 99 questions about a Polo, never mind!

They've got a timing belt which should have been done by 60K miles or within 4 years of purchase.
