Work at Walmart-Big Problem

Started in last year. Working in Florida. 2nd day on the manager said I was too slow. They kept me(originally temporary). That was good. Several people including my specific manager have said I work fast. Really, I move faster than most people there. Lots of people talk and play on their phones and nothing is ever said to them. I work in Pets and Papers in chemicals. They're together, for whatever reason. In this store though, instead of being next to each other, one is by groceries, and the other is all the way on the other side near the garden center. I am the only person who works in the 2 areas. Excluding night shift, but that doesn't matter for me. They never finish or even really work anyways. Of course there is my department manager, but I almost always work when he isn't working.

There's also this really stupid bitch ZMS. Most people don't like her. She said I'm slow too. That's really upsetting. I also asked a manager if she knew a friend of mine and if she was over my area, only to be told 2 weeks later by a lower level manager not to ask "personal questions" like those. This is ridiculous. I work hard every day, and do the best I can. Zone, zone, zone. That's all I hear. It is nearly impossible to have both my areas looking perfect with the time I have. I work 4.5 Hours a lot. Sometimes 7 and 8 hours. Even then, I'm constantly asked to do work, that I shouldn't be, like stocking water or food, or downstacking and unloading trucks.

I wouldn't say anyone is thinking of firing me(I hope not), but what should I do? This is pretty stressful.

Do you realize this is an Irish forum?

Just dont worry about it, managers are paid to get the most out of people, it sounds like you are responsive to their pokes. Work hard, get along with people and you will be fine. If they fire you, its only Walmart, your life will carry on just fine. Dont bust your own chops over nothing.

    I do now hah.

And well, yeah, it's only Walmart, but they're paying me $10.45 an hour which is significant. Better than most other places. It will have to do while I'm still in college.

    'too slow' huh?

sounds like a crude way of squeezing a bit more sweat out of employees

I wouldn't worry about it if you're holding your own

    downstacking?

As I'm sure you know, with any truck coming with cargo on it, it's boxes stacked up on the pallet. Sometimes there's only 8 pallets, sometimes there's 28. Could be 1800 pieces or 3800 pieces. Pieces means boxes. So 3800 pieces means 3800 boxes. Individually, you must take each box down and put it on a cart. You must have multiple carts for different items. All the canned vegetables go on one cart. All the juices bottles go on one, etc.. If a pallet consists of items that all go together, then you don'y have to downstack it, that's rare though. The warehouses usually do a ****ty job, so sometimes when pulling it off the trucks it's leaning or completely falls down. After that, you take each cart out and place it next to the aisle where the items go. It takes hours to do that.

Get some sleep, they have you working to hard for peanuts. Relax and chat up girls you work with. Only good thing about low paid retail work... low paid female colleagues for company.

    Hah, good idea.

Like I said though, this is basically the best job I can get. Anything else would need college.
