New Mobo - Won't post

    Hi all,

Decided to upgrade my rig from an itx to an atx format by getting a new case and mobo.

    CPU: 3770K - Socket 1155.
    Old board - ASRock Z77 ITX-E
    New Board - ASRock Z77 Extreme4
    GPU - 7850.

I moved all the bits from the old mobo (ASRock ITX-E) onto the new board and I can't get it to boot. The fans spin for half a second and it shuts off. I stripped the board down to the Mb,CPU and PSU. No joy. I took all the parts out of the case and set it up on the anti static bag, same story. Tried different slots with the RAM and with no RAM installed. The GPU was not used at this stage.

Worse - I moved it all back to the original board and I'm still stuffed!! Now the PSU and fans stay on but won't post or go to the BIOS, no video, no keyboard, n mouse. I stripped this down to psu,mb and cpu with no results. The CMOS reset button light is on all the time. I have tried reseting the CMOS via the button and via the jumper to no avail. Tried playing with different RAM configurations with no result as before. I have tried this with and without the GPU. When seated, the fans on the GPU do not spin.

    Now for the goof stuff!!
The cpu socket looks ropey on the new board - some pins seem a bit bent. I may have damaged it with the plastic cap that came with the board - i took it out and replaced it when i got the board - seemed to be a bit scrapey going in.

The cpu socket on my original board doesn't look much better. Is this wear and tear? I did not put the cap into the socket on this board.

I need some advice to get my rig going again.

Do you think I've bolloxed the cpu socket on the new board?

Could the CPU have been damaged by the socket damage on the new board?

Does any visible damage in a 1155 socket indicate that the board is destroyed?

Feeling fairly Peed off at the mo.

    Any advice would be welcome.

    Regards,

    K.
