Eircom/Vodafone/Verizon shares - what was the actual loss?

I wonder if anybody has calculated how much an investor lost, if they bought at the launch of Eircom shares at whatever a share cost (in Irish punts I presume), held on to the shares and got the small dividends each year and finally got rid of the lot at this lastest offering.

The papers today are all lauding the amount of money that "came onto into peoples pockets" today but seem to ignore that this money is at a massive (but not actually calculated) loss to the original investment.
