hi all, would anybody know the cost of putting a slatted tank on the end of a haybarn and leanto. I think it is roughly 50ft long and I was thinking of putting 12ft 6 slats on it. The tank will have feed barriers on the outside for suckler cows. The leanto will be straw bedded and so will half the length of the haybarn[45ft]. The other half of the haybarn will be used as a feeding passage and scraped back to the tank with feed barriers on the outside length of it. I hope it isn't to confusing, any help and opinions would be great.

    thanks!

sorry the haybarn feed passage will just be a standing area for cows to eat at the feed barrier. it would be scraped back to the tank. I will have a couple of lads pricing it over the next few days. I was hoping someone here could give me a rough idea of the cost of the tank. If ye coud give me any more ideas and advice it would be great. I was thinking of putting between 30-35 suckler cows in it for next winter.

If you have room, make it 70 ft long and put a 14 ft6 slat on it . longer slats wont cost much extra and a strip of concrete 2 ft wide wont be huge either but it will hold nearly 20% extra slurry. 50 ft tank for 35 cows is very small, you will be constantly empting it, think of recent weather and ground conditions, id say you need 2 ft tank for every cow.

    Thanks ford 5600!
Do you thank a lad would get a 70ft tank down with 14ft 6 slats, apron and feed barriers for 20,000 euro?

Still at the quoting stage here, but 40' outside tank, similar to what you're planning plus barriers coming into around €10-11k completed.
That said, the winter was so bad, I'm having second thoughts about outside feeding. Some mornings, they wouldn't go out to yard for nuts!!
May end up raising roof on low shed and putting tank in there.
And as someone said on another thread, a tank and mats is far easier in the long run than a tank and straw lie-back.

hi pat! if you can get a 40ft tank, barriers etc... done for 11,000 euro surely I can get a bigger tank than 50ft done for under 20,000 euro. It might even stretch to the 70ft tank ford 5600 was talking about. I would like to have it covered as well but maybe in a couple of years that can be done.
