MINI One central locking

My Mother's 2003 Mini one has needed the key inserting into the driver's door the last while to get into the car. Pressing the key fob opened the passenger door/boot etc. but not the driver's door. Now the problem is that the key fob won't open anything but if it's kept pressed the sunroof and windows open so it's reading the key.

All she can open is the driver's door. Flicking the central locking switch inside the car does nothing. She had to open the fuel cap from the lever inside the boot by folding the rear seats (boot/passenger door and fuel cap won't open).

Would this be caused by both Lock Actuator's being gone? Mum got it hooked up to diagnostics and was told the fault that came up was control unit internal fault so not sure what to tell her do. I've not been able to see the car since the faults happened so from my part it's all been telephone conversations with the parents!

Body control module a likely suspect. In the modern style of german engineering it doubles as an expensive leak detector.

Had a windscreen replaced lately? Or noticeded the A panel plastic trim was loose? (latter usually related to the former)

My mother has the car since late 2005 or 2006. No windscreen has been replaced since she got it. And as far as I know no trim is loose. Where is the module in the car?

You can see it behind the lever for the bonnet release. Behind that plastic panel, right in the path of a leak from the A panel. Thats my guess at what the problem is. It was a known issue, but I thought by 03 they had given them some plastic cap to reduce chance of water getting in electrics
There are crowds in the UK that will recondition them. Dunno if any in ireland.

Is this the control module? And if I get one off a breakers is it a straight forward swap or does anything need resetting after? Thanks for the help btw SleeperService.

Hers has never given trouble so we've reached the limit of my knowledge here. IMO considering they were known to give trouble, and the symptoms, I think its a good bet.
But worth getting a more exact diagnosis - the "module" fault description should be traceable to a specific module you'd imagine. Dunno about coding or anything after.

Have a look round the net, many useful enthusiasts sites. If I think of it later I'll look through the Haynes manual see what it says...

Mr Haynes says coding needed for replacement module.

It refers to it as the BCM body control module in one chapter and a ZKE module in another. BMW heads will know of ZKE from problematic GM3 and GM5 modules apparently. Don't think the mini and bmw modules are swappable , but the fact that there are guides out there for DIY fixes for the bmw versions... Maybe there is an equivalent guide for mini?
